BREAKING NEWS - Jazz close to signing Toure Murry

I wonder if the Jazz still have the headband ban still in action, or will Murray be the first to wear one.

It tells us about Murry but generally speaking, that article was awful.

* ..."if for no other reason than the be used as insurance during the season if one or more of our prime time guys are having a bad game." What? No. He's insurance in case of injury but other than that injury or a blowout, this guy shouldn't see the court. Ever. Burke, Exum, Burks, and Haywood need to play and play a lot.

*"All of those teams, save for the Knicks, are playoff teams." I know I'll get backlash on this but imo, the Knicks will make the playoffs this year. A new voice in Fisher should help a lot and a core of Carmello, Calderon, Hardaway, Jr., Shumpert, Early, J.R. Smith, Stoudemire, and Dalembert should be at least the #8 seed. Either way, it's not so black and white to write in the present tense that they aren't a playoff team.

*The use of three point stats which were mediocre in college and the D-league and in the NBA, so limited a sample size.

*"IF the Jazz also get Chauncey Billups I'm fine with this : )" Knowing Burke and Exum need major PT at the point, the idea seems awful. Unless of course Billups is content with just riding the pine. I doubt that though and while I'd like someone to mentor Burke and Exum, I'm only happy with the idea if the guy knows he may get 82 DNP's. That smiley face was just the awful icing on top.

Murry's agent told Jody Gennessy the report was "news to him." idk if I believe it. didn't DL say he wanted a team friendly deal for the 3rd pg a week or two ago? 2 yrs 2 mil isn't much, but it's more than we've been spending on a third pg the last few years. Unless the second year is non-guaranteed, which i guess it probably is, so never mind

You don't believe anything posted by Marc Stein.

Especially when only Marc Stein reports it.

Is it?
Diante Garrett $798K
John Lucas III $1.6M
Jamaal Tinsley $1.2M, $1.3M
Earl Watson $2M, $2.3M

You just don't get salaries much lower. A minimum contract for a rookie could be 2 years, $1.3M. If you take a second year guy it's 2 years, $1.7M. There just aren't a lot of options that come in lower than this (rumored) deal for Murry unless you go very young and stick to the minimum.

Isn't the rookie minimum around $507K? So yes, $1M is bargain basement.
Not even sure why Utah is doing this. Why not just go the Garrett route and sign a D-Leaguer if the need ever arises? In-game, the 3rd PG would likely be inactive, so if Trey or Dante went down, Clark or Burks would serve as the emergency PG.

As I see these names and look at their 3pt %s I can't help but think about the idea I have seen some mention (such as PKM) about a Favors/Gobert frontcourt working if they are surrounded by shooters. With an excellent (or so it seems) passing PG in Exum and all these shooters in Hood, Novak, Hayward and now possibly Murry it makes me think that Snyder has similar thoughts. Not to mention a coach brought on to be a shooting coach. Could this spell trouble for Kanter?

It might be true that snyder chooses to go with gobert and favors together in the starting lineup (though i doubt it)..... but i think you are reading way to much into an end of the bench signing if this signing is helping you come to that conclusion

This signing has little to do with how the minutes will be distributed or how the team will be ran.

I agree that Murry is an end of bench guy but the Jazz have shown to be going after shooters. I doubt Gobert starts this year either but could Gobert be subbed for Kanter and that moves Favors to the PF position? Not so much this specific move but the trend I think I see starting to develop.

Toure played here at Wichita State (where I teach), so I saw him in action a lot. He's a very solid defender, but I've been surprised he's managed to scrape into the NBA. I know he's worked on his game a lot after he left and seemed to scratch a little playing time in the NBA. I don't see him getting much time with the Jazz, but I think if there's an injury or a couple of guys are in coach's doghouse I know we could (and recently have) do much worse. He'll play within Quin's system, work hard, and eat his spinach.
