Burks / Kanter extensions ???

I think you have to at least try to get them at a decent bargain. Especially with possibility of the cap increasing. I'd offer both around 8-10 and see if they take it. We don't want to get stuck paying another Hayward deal.

There are more reasons to extend them now, than there is not to imo. I'm never gonna count on saving our cap space for some great free agent. I don't have that kind of faith in our team. I kinda think we should go all in on this homegrown team thing. We have to pay somebody anyways. Might as well bite on some potential. Both Burks and Kanter still have a bunch of potential.

Agree with Hack. 8-10 sounds fair for both players. I don't think they will take them though.

For those interested, Zach Lowe thinks that Burks will be the one extended:

Extension talks are in chaos as teams and agents wait for the league to provide salary cap clarity. Teams might be eager to lock in long-term deals that will morph into bargains, but agents are wary of signing long-term contracts for the same reason. Being known for signing an under-market contract is bad for luring future clients.

As a wing player who has mostly come off the pine, Burks might settle more readily for a compromise number. Kanter is a big man with bigger dreams, and the Jazz have Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert on the roster.

I wonder what he means by "bigger dreams": A bigger role, playing in a big market....does he knows Kanter?

Hell no to extending Kanter. We don't know that he can play a role on the team that helps us win. If he wants to take 8 million a year, I would consider it, but even then I would have to think it over if I was DL.

I know Burks can help us win in a 6th man capacity. He can play a role for sure. I would try to extend him.

Yeah, DL probably wants to see if Kanter can thrive under Quin's new system and help us win. So far I'm not impressed. He has this season to figure things out. The sooner the better....

He had a good game vs. the Blazers.

Let's also not forget that Kanter is coming off surgery and has only recently started playing 5 on 5 again. He is a little behind the curve compared to the other guys who spent the whole summer playing high level competitive basketball or a full off-season of development.

The fact that his passing is showing improvement is a huge sign to me.

His individual offense might suffer without Corbin though. Kanter is probably the guy who benefited most (from an individual stats perspective) within Corbin's post heavy offense

Yeah, he needs to knock down that 3point shot, because he won't spent much time in the left block as he used to, getting offensive rebounds and putbacks. He needs to catch up fast, you can tell than Booker and Gobert are in great basketball "shape" and ready to play big minutes now.

I hope kanter can speed up the release on his shot.
He's getting open looks but he takes too long to get rid of the ball

If I was DL I would have called Kanters agent first thing this morning and asked him if he had seen last nights box score. And if he'd like to reconsider the last offer that was on the table from the jazz.

While SLC is a small place, there is a fairly large Turkish population (especially if you count Ogden through Orem)

I like Kanter but he's mentally weak - which is more obstructive to a player's development than any type of basketball shortcoming. Until he's able to display the ability to play through mistakes I wouldn't commit anything more than market value for a back-up 4.

Very good point re: the injury. Still though, in a league headed towards more mobile 4's, is Kanter caught in between two positions: not quick enough to guard the PF's and not physical enough to be a rim protector at the 5? The way he's played defense his ceiling might be a poor man's Boozer at the 4.

Well, when Corbin and Locke weren't blaming him for being the reason the Jazz were losing. Hard to benefit at all when you're being called the scapegoat.

Not a fan of Kanter at all, but if we could get him locked up for 4 years and in the 30 million dollar range, I would be on board. I think he is at least a very good 7th man and might be in his best interest to get locked up as he very well may be our 4th big this year.

So, Vucevic gets 4 years at $13.5M/season from Magic. Will be a comparable for Valanciunas, who likely gets more.

So who likes Enes for 13.5 million Per? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone besides you Max Eurgul.

I'd give enes 13.5 over four years if he'd take it.

Dude if Kanter would take 8 you jump all over it. That's good value especially considering where things are headed with the new TV deal. If you don't want him then you've got a great trade asset with that contract.

Burks isn't 6th man on this team. If Exum blows up then we have that conversation. For now he's definitely a starter.
