Cavs offer Gordo MAX deal (maybe)

So it seems like there are legitimately people on this board who are not understanding that Hayward getting a max deal would be in no way similar to arenas, Marbury, kirilenko, etc.

Hayward will make far less than those guys on a percentage basis due to the new cba, and the number of years he will be signing for is at 4 instead of 6 or 7 like the true "albatross" contracts.

Not only will Hayward's contract (if he really gets the max) be for less money, but the cap will be rising annually, which is being downplayed by some here, but is actually a significant factor in his next contract.

I am not advocating for Hayward to get maxed, but the arguments going on in this thread are ridiculous.

You might be on to something here. I was thinking the same thing. Maybe the report was *** backwards like seemingly every report for the last 3 weeks.

I think the Jazz have more leverage than people realize... Even if a team wants to overpay to get Hayward, the Jazz can threaten to match and force the team to trade assets to get him. Getting Hayward could cost a team significantly.

Not in the first year.

It's probably also worth pointing out that the cap was increasing during AK's contract as well. The years and smaller annual raises do make a big difference though.

Still, Hayward isn't that good. Before this past season he was a decent spot-up shooter who could run the break. He's an average halfcourt defender. You don't pay an easily replaceable player $16mm per year.

All true...... changes nothing...... no way we should match a max contract for hayward.

As of this moment still no actual offer sheet?

I'm becoming convinced this is Gilbert playing games to get LeBron's attention.

Part of the mind game here is that if you offer a max contract, that money gets tied up for three days meaning you can't offer other contracts to FA's.

Now you know why max contracts are intended to be given to guys like Lebron/Carmelo vs. the Haywards of the world.

Honestly, I think I'd prefer Hayward over Carmelo. After he left Denver their playing style became more team oriented (and they were better without him).

Omg... Now it all makes sense.

Is Hayward not better than a few of these players? Could a change in coach help him develop into a "max" player?
