Charlie Kirk shot at UVU event

I think we should have empathy for Charlie Kirk and his friends and family.
Charlie Kirk disagrees though.

“I think empathy is a made up New Age term that does a lot of damage” -Charlie Kirk
Oh damn, I guess we all shouldnt fall for @Mongoose outrage then. Kirk would want us all, at the very most, to be completely numb to his death. So to honor him, lets all say how much we truly dont give a **** about Charlie Kirk

A dude that has a wife and 2 young children was publicly assassinated in front of thousands of people including little kids and all ages and people want to act like he deserved it. That is just sick! Charlie has strong opinions and stated them, but he isn't out there hurting anyone or even making them attend his events. If people don't agree, then don't attend and vote for people with different political views to him.
I think one could argue that his words have damaged a lot of people. He’s voiced some pretty extremist rhetoric against perceived political enemies, immigrants, and… well there’s this:

His group actively feeds the hot rhetoric and conspiracies that have led to countless deaths and damage to our democracy. Claiming that his speech and organization hasn’t harmed anyone is drastically underselling what he’s said and what TPUSA has done.

He didn’t deserve to be shot. But I wouldn’t call his rhetoric harmless. He hasn’t improved the political environment. He’s poured more gas on the fire. It’s sad because he was a talented speaker.

I think my voting history indicates that I am pretty much a moderate as my ballots usually are about 60% republican and 40% democrat. I vote for the person, not the party. Since people on this thread want to bring everything back to presidential politics, I didn't like either candidate this time. One was way too harsh and needs to know when to shut up, but the other was completely incompetent. Lose/lose situation. Either way would go badly. Either way, it is sick and wrong to murder anyone due to political views and then celebrate their death as being justified or deserved.

Im just saying this is the world people who voted for Trump, and for people who dont support gun control, voted for.

I would love to have gun control in America so people like Charlie Kirk can do his dumbass college tours without fear for their lives. I'm equally fearful that political commentators I like on the opposite side could also have this happen to them, so I'm not actively celebrating this act.

See the difference is I vote for a world where this kind of thing would be much harder to do, and you voted for one that has made it easier. So you can do this whole "make people do PC talk and if they dont I will act like a deranged liberal who is mad at speech" act, but I actively vote for an America where Charlie Kirk would still be alive.
Murder is already illegal genius. It somehow didn’t stop the murderer! Hateful rhetoric and justification is the issue here. Mental health is also a significant issue. Too many sick and deranged hateful mentally ill folks that take too many medications and don’t have access mental healthcare or counseling.

So we should make nukes legal to own for every American while we at it?

Why would you decouple this from presidential politics? you don’t see the political rhetoric between he and Trump being related to this shooting?

I'm really disturbed by this.

And I'm really disturbed by so many people being okay with it.

Political violence is gross and terrifying. If you were against what he was saying, fine, but if you think him being murdered is going to do any good whatsoever, you're extremely dumb.
Who has condoned this violence?

All I’ve seen in this thread are people:

1) calling out the hypocrisy of Repubs staying silent/laughing when perceived political opponents are assassinated or hurt.
2) bringing up Kirk’s (ironic) quotes on gun violence and having to sacrifice children to gun violence in order to perceive rights in America… which is a completely asinine and insensitive remark. No one deserves to be shot. It’s not a necessary sacrifice to preserve right. Why can’t we be a more peaceful country?

I’m sorry folks, but if you want to empathy, , etc then the rhetoric at the top needs to change. Gun violence is wrong. Let’s be clear about that. I just wished our top leaders and influencers felt the same way too

The shooter shot from 200 yards away. Dude is probably ex-military.
Anyone here go to UVU? It’s been a few years since I studied there. Where was this guy perched? The triangle there isn’t that big. He had to have been on the rooftop on the Sorenson building or Science Building.
