Derrick Favors: Moses Malone. His defense is fine and is coming along so well that no one can say he won't get there. But Moses is the gold standard for this kind of broad shouldered bull-of-a-man kind of player on the other side. Favors should resist people telling him to become something he's not an embrace what he is: a beast that must be fouled every time he gets up a head of steam. I don't believe Favors will ever be as good as Moses, but that's the tape he should be watching.
Huge Sixers fan during the Moses Malone era. It would be a big mistake for Favors to emulate Malone, in my opinion. Completely different athleticism and defensive potential. Below the rim versus above the rim. Favors has explosiveness and quickness, Moses was a immovable bull.

As far as defense goes would Kanter be closer to Moses?
Those are ceiling/floor comparisons, by the way.
Sir......................s, Been a long time since i have posted anything, but being possibly one of the few members who actually remember a young Moses Malone i can tell you that at about Derrick's present age Moses was not anything like the "bull-of-a-man" we all fondly remember scattering bodies around the courts of the NBA. He was slim and could jump like a pogo stick with a motor. It was said that he could jump and then relaunch himself faster than any man alive. Four or five years later he started to fill out those shoulders and became a legendary rebounder. Derrick was seemingly born with those shoulders and will have his own path to follow and we can all hope that he approaches Malone's stature as a player. I would not expect Favors to ever be the rebounder that Moses was but has the possibility of being as good or even better scorer if he develops right and listens closely enough to the other Malone. Small sidelight to your excellent post.
Gordon Hayward - Kevin Durant. Yes seriously. He needs to be a knock down 3pt shooter who can make plays for others when he's double teamed. He has already worked on being more physical and drawing fouls, and that's what Durant does best.
What, being fringe-allstars? I never said that they aren't. Then again, your point is about as powerful as saying that Hayward is pretty close to Josh Smith.
Why does it have to be a white-dude who had the facilitating capabilities of Smush Parker? Even Mike Miller is a better comp (as far as white dudes are concerned) than Matt Harpring. What about Josh Howard? Richard Jefferson started off at 6'7" and 222. Grant Hill was 6'8 and 225 as well-- and a pre-prime Grant is pretty much Gordon's ceiling IMO. Not hard to find a closer body-comp AT ALL.
Put the condescending ******** away. What the **** do you know about Moses Malone, with this logic? Nothing I have said has assaulted Harpring the player. Obviously he put up fringe all-star numbers.
I would be absolutely furious with 1.7 APG, seeing as Al Jefferson averaged more assists in all three of his seasons with the Jazz. Particularly seeing as we will be running our offense through Hayward for most of the season, by all accounts of the coaching staff. We don't need Hayward hitting 20ppg. If Hayward averaged 1.7 APG, we will not get past 18 wins this season.
This is fair. I definitely want Hayward averaging a better FG%. I'm far less-concerned about his rebounds, seeing as we have a plethora of capable rebounders on this roster.
I just think that there are much better players that Hayward should emulate-- even those that aren't too lofty. A post-game is definitely important-- but how about he implements some of Manu's game into his own? I think emulating Manu makes much more sense with where our team is headed. Every player in the NBA could probably take a couple things from Matt's game, but it doesn't meant that he should be the #1 choice of emulation.
Which comes back to my initial point. Harpring and Hayward only share (somewhat) of a similarity in height/weight, and skin colour. The differences are essentially drastic after that.
I'll play....
For Kanter, he has the energy of Rony Seikaly and should try to keep developing post moves like Kevin McHale. Add a jump shot and we're good to go. I'm not seeing quite as much Bill Laimbeer toughness and wrestler mentality, but maybe some of that's unnecessary.
For Hayward, he should try to have the defensive impact of a Bobby Jones, shoot and drive like Dan Majerle, and pass like Hornacek.
Derrick Favors should go ahead and try to be Shawn Kemp or Antonio McDyess on offense. Right now, I'm seeing Kevin Willis--the borderline All Star Kevin Willis who averaged 15 boards and was unmovable on defense.
Jeremy Evans is basically Thadeus Young. He's lucky to be getting rotation minutes.
Trey Burke has been in the league for like 20 minutes, but I'm still seeing a Damon Stoudamire PG. Offensively can do things Jameer Nelson does, but he has better feel and slightly better speed. He's probably going to have a tough go of it when he matches up with Derek Rose and Russel Westbrook.
Alec Burks is a slightly unconventional player. I see a bit of a Jamal Crawford mentality, but he's more a slasher than a cross-up jump shooter. Players like Vernon Maxwell and Vincent Askew come to mind, but I think Burks is still defining himself as a player. Burks actually has the tools to do some of what Monta Ellis and James Harden do offensively.

.
Nice, although I'd simplify by skipping DMajerle and go with a defensive BJones and an offensive JHornacek. That's an allstar.
Okay, but Hayward isn't really the shooter that Hornacek was.
You guys remind me of guys who try to convince themselves that some chick that they are with is hot. You have to reallllly squint your eyes to see these comparisons.
I like the Moses comparison, but more for Kanter than Favors. Favors reminds me of Roy Tarpley before drugs/suspension derailed his career. Hayward is like Shandon Anderson: does a lot of things, comes up big at crucial moments, but also has games where he fades into the background or has a turnover on a simple play that is a killer. Burks is Correy Maggette. I'll wait until I see more of Burke before I put him in the comparison box.
