What's new

Coronavirus

I think boosters every six months is the new norm. Maybe that gets extended to 12 months at some point, but just like the flu shot, expect it annually.

Probably true, but as we all eventually get exposed and build up "memory" t-cells, the risk from COVID should decrease substantially unless there are severe mutations that make it even more dangerous. Still waiting too see the likely impact of Omicron.

About 50% of the population gets a flu shot. I'd imagine at some point the COVID shot will have a similar response as our bodies tolerate it more.

They're going up the Greek alphabet except they skipped 2 letters. They skipped Nu because it sounds like "new" and would lead to a who's-on-first confusion, and they skipped Xi because they're worried they'd upset the Chinese government. That gives us Omicron.
I was under the impression that omicron is Nu. That is what I initially read when it was first reported on.

It has been in the population since at least November 9th. It is also worth noting that it isn't only the mortality statistics but also universal reporting of mild symptoms, including no loss of smell or taste, as supporting evidence to the idea of omicron being a far less dangerous pathogen than what we've been dealing with.

“It would be a great thing if, in fact, omicron crowded out delta. If omicron was a less pathogenic virus, that would be very good news for the human race," said Greene.

It also makes sense for the virus to evolve in the direction of being less dangerous, said Dr. Paul Offit, director of the Vaccine Education Center at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

"It's never to the advantage of the virus to kill you," he said. "All viruses want to be the common cold, just give you the sniffles while you go around infecting others."

I love it when they anthropomorphize things like viruses or evolution. I get what he is saying, it just cracks me up to make it sound like there is some virus conference where they decide they need to kill less people.

"Look at the common cold people, it has a hold on this world. We need to be the new common cold! We need to become less deadly! Yes, I know we like killing people, but unless we can turn the dead bodies into vectors for infection...yes, that is a tall order...then our best bet is to emulate our cousins and tone it down, get more people to pass us along. We need to stop the kill!"

They are literally dying for Trump and he loves it.
Well... that's one strategy for the midterms. Definitely not my preference. But if Trumpers want to ruin their chances of retaking the House and Senate because they killed off their own, well have at it. At least the collective intelligence, virtue, and weight of the country will be improved

They're so hungry for a fight we should send them to Ukraine to use them guns and stuff.
