Dennis Lindsey feels he owes Richard Jefferson a lot

Burks has definitely grown lots. It's been exciting watching him play over the course of this season. It's especially intriguing as it's completely impossible to peg what kind of player he will be over the course of his career.

Hopefully we can hang onto him

Truly this may be the dumbest thing lindsey ever says. Jazz owe one thing to its players-money. Loyalty, resurrecting careers, and all other extraneous bull crap are just excuses to justify bad decisions. Jefferson played 25 mins last night and had 4 points. Even if he had played well instead of steaming crap he should never get more than 20 mins.

Kanter who has been beasting in limited time played 19 mins and had 11 points and 6 rebounds.

Jazz seem lost about the purpose of the season. Player development or resurrecting careers.

I just don't understand why Jefferson gets 40 minutes and Burks minutes get cut EVER. How come when the vets play like sh** they keep minutes and when the young guys play like crap they are put in the dog house like Kanter. Has Burks ever approached 40 minutes? I doubt it, and that is freaking B.S.

Bull. Relationships, with both players and agents, matter. Corbin is going to continue to use lineups he thinks give the Jazz the best chance to win games AND develop young talent. Burning bridges is not some magic franchise saver.

" Even the most novice fan can see what we did.
Is this an outright admission that it was a tanking move, or is he suggesting that the fans should see something else?
But, look, y’know, it’s not young guys come hell or high water. We have Richard Jefferson that we’re trying to recreate his career, and we owe him a lot towards his career and responsibility to continue it. Ty’s coached him well and been honest with him, so, Richard, I think, appreciates that.

We have Brandon Rush, who we’ve gone through a long rehab [with]. We’ve been very patient and diligent — we could have rushed him back, but we didn’t physically or mentally, and I think Brandon and (his agent Mark) Bartelstein appreciate that.

Same thing with Andris Biedrins."

Why does he feel the Jazz owe so much to these vets? It's our job to rehabilitate players that GS neglects? I get the value of creating positive relationships with agents and a good reputation with players, but I think this is too much, especially at the expense of a guy like Kanter who could definitely be playing more minutes if not for this commitment to players who clearly will not be on this team long term. It's extremely frustrating to have seen only 15 minutes of the lineup most of the fans on this board were excited for when this year began.

Because you're deluding yourself?

Richard Jefferson's minutes were cut to 11, 14, and 17 in three consecutive games. Burks has very few games in the teens, and zero consecutive.

Yep. I still like Burks off the bench to give him (and Hayward) more opportunity with the ball in his hands (and provide the Jazz with a little more size in the starting lineup). Perhaps the most encouraging stat so far has been Alec's catch and shoot efficiency (per NBA.com's Player Tracking data). So far Alec has been 15-34 on catch and shoot 3-pointers (.441), with an overall .625 eFG% in catch and shoots (a shot from 10+ feet out, where the player holds the ball for 2 seconds or less and takes no dribbles). Marvin and RJ are .432/.574 and .415/.564, respectively. If Alec can continue to knock down those jumpers, he's going to be able to play more minutes as an off-ball player.

I'm glad that DL gets warm fuzzies from resurrecting aging vet careers.

Maybe once RJ and Marvin sign with other teams this summer DL can get to the business of resurrecting the Jazz franchise?

Or will no one care by that point? Will he even have a job? Will the franchise still be here?

All I know is that I've never seen so many empty green seats. The loss of Hayward this summer and the addition of a rookie role player means that we will be stuck in the lottery for another season next year. I'm sure that will light ticket sales on fire...

I can see it now... The next time we are actually relevant will be around 2020.

"Jazz Nation, on your feet! We are shooting for the 8th seed! Favors and Burke are finally surrounded with talent! Stockton and Malone's grandchildren have infused our team with the talent necessary to maybe win 1 game against 50 year old Duncan and the Spurs! Buy 2 home games and receive a crappy Papa Johns pizza! Come join us! Boler has finally learned what a skip pass is and Harpring (did you know he used to play football?) no longer needs a haircut because he's bald!"

I heard on a local sports radio show that burks agent had told DL that burks was upset that he was not starting.

This was early in the year so maybe things have changed but he was in fact upset about his role this season.

I bet he was pissed the other night when jeffy got 40 minutes and closed out the game in charlotte despite burks playing well. (Pure speculation on my part)

I know I was pissed. (I was at that game btw)

I was at that game too. My wife and I were unbelievably pissed at Burks' minutes. When Hayward was taken out of the game for bogus fouls, Burks was the guy that kept us in the game. He was even passing the ball well, Favors just kept turning it over. I completley understand why Burks is pissed about his role. I'm pissed about his role, He is screaming potential. But Jefferson is a vet and that 'leadership' is always worth it. Even if the leadership gets your 5-9 points as opposed to Burk's 16-20

Wow, that is a very disturbing quote. I would be ok with giving RJ 8-12 mpg, and that is more than what's "owed" to him (WTF??). Isn't this the same guy that came right out and blatantly said he's ditching SLC at first crack of dawn to go championship hunting??

This all makes me wonder... are we really focused on building for the future or are we more preoccupied with resurrecting careers of washed up hacks? Because over the course of the last few years, this organization has shown they're more worried about making mediocre vets happy than developing the youth and future of the franchise. I thought that was all a byproduct of KOC/Corbin incompetence, but it appears that DL is either fully onboard or is nothing more than KOC's puppet.
