One problem with Bell is that he is a liability on offense. An older Brewer with a better rep. Teams sag off him, and will do so more and more, as they know he is no longer a threat. That makes it tougher on everyone else. But what makes it a travesty that he is playing more minutes than our promising rookie is that what he is being hailed for is no longer top-shelf: defense. He is anything but a lock-down defender, and his ability to arguably play marginally better defense than Burks on some of the leagues 2's will not be the difference-maker in any games this season. It isn't like he is going to shut down Kobe so we can slap the Lakers or frustrate Wade into a terrible night so we beat the Heat. He just isn't enough of a difference maker, and is too much a liability on offense, to justify his time on the floor.

Start him to set a defensive tone, to show an example of playing hard, sure, fine, but pull him at the 8 minute mark unless he is really clicking and give Burks some burn when the minutes count.
 
Asked about continued lack of production from the starting shooting guard position — Raja Bell had zero points on 0-of-2 shooting in 19:03 — Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said he's not concerned. Corbin praised Bell's defensive efforts, in addition to intangibles he brings to the game.

He's taking four shots a game; if he makes 1, he's shooting 25%; if he makes 2, he's shooting 50%. Difference per game: 2 points.

Now, he may not be playing very good defense (I haven't been able to watch enough to judge). However, he's correct that his shooting percentage is not having a major effect.

I disagree. The fact that he's taking so few shots and hitting so few of them means he's a non-threat. Therefore teams are backing/will back off him and cover the other players that much more. Call it the reverse-Korver effect. So his lack of shooting ability is going to seriously affect the rest of the offense.

Bell isn't that terrible of a shooter that people will just purposely leave him open behind the arc. He is a career 40% from deep, people still respect his shot.

He's not as dissed as Brewer (how many are?), but Bell has done squat in the last two years. Add that he's scared to shoot, has publicly said he's not interested in taking or making shots, can't get to the cup, can't handle the ball, and it's hard to imagine less of a threat to guard.
