What's new

Do any of you drive hybrids? (prius, volt, leaf, etc)

My wife just moved up from the van to a corolla and thinks 38mpg is great. I want to go all the way from my Nissan PU to a Prius just because I work for the battery people. Lithium batteries will be 100% recycled. The hybrid is market-driven just because people aren't secure in an all-battery vehicle and batteries face a steep barrier in going the distance. CNG/hybrid would be a winner.

She must be driving it in full eco mode with the cvt and not the 6-speed, or she just knows how to drive it well. My neighbor bought one and gets about 30-34mpg, but he told me it drops to mid 20's when he is in sport mode. He has not been real happy with it from that aspect. Maybe there is a trick to it or something.

Probably differences in driving habits and even altitude/terrain. I know she likes to manually change gears using the paddle shifter.

So Archie's girl drives a car like 2 or 3 times nicer then your girls car, and I thought you were some hot shot lawyer. My mistake.

I don't consider it my duty to buy my girlfriend a $50,000 SUV when she makes her own money.

But seriously, I'm glad you and Archie are friends.

I didnt realize so many of you would be driving these things.

are you guys cool with amount of environmental harm you guys are causing?

I think the real harm here is when people buy these cars when they aren't ready for a new one, because they want to be environmentally friendly. If they are already in the market for a new car I'm all for it. Recycling and batter technologies are improving all the time so I think it's a net gain for the environment. I haven't really done too much research though. I'd probably get one next time I buy a car, but I'm thinking a motorcycle/scooter for sunny days is probably my next purchase. My non-hybrid already gets 29ish mpg and has a while until I need an upgrade.
