I believe it was @silesian that said that the worst record is guaranteed a top-5 pick and that has stuck with me.

I want us to be despicable.

I understand that position, but I'm not currently there.

I think there is a good chance that the 7th pick can get you an all star in the draft next year and isn't significantly different than a top 5 pick. You have a really good chance at a top 7 pick with the 6th worst record, which I think is possible with Lauri on the roster. If you can add an all star from 2024 to Lauri + the role players we currently have and could get via trade or free agency, and then suddenly we have a good team.

My only hesitation on this route is the 2026 draft where we likely lose a decent pick to OKC.

One way teams can tank more subtly is by gutting their bench. The starters can be fine and give good production, but then the bench comes in and goes -10 at the end of the 1st quarter and early 2nd quarter. Then they can blow another -10 in the late-3rd/early-4th quarter.

The Jazz did this back in 2014, where their starters kept pace, but the weakened bench basically assured that the Jazz wouldn't score over 100 pts for the game. A bench unit with Collier, Sensabaugh, Bazley, Filipowski and Eubanks might pull that off.

Last year, the Jazz tanked by focusing on offense but not really playing defense. So they gave up close to 120 every night.

The best thing for the tank would be a front loaded schedule
Agreed. We have a tendency to start relatively hot and surprise some teams that are still trying to get into their flow. As fun as it is for us fans and the players, if you’re 6-4 after 10 games or 10-10 after 20 you’re already way of tanking course. It’s not great for us as fans or for the players, especially the youngsters, to be losing a lot from the get go, but it is what’s needed to be in the position we want to be at the end of the season. A few exciting wins at the start can bite you in the *** hard at the end.

I agree... but also... we had that in 2022 too. It was part of what comforted me when I was worried we didn't cut deep enough that offseason.

Can you summarize a little more? I won't be able to listen until tomorrow.
Still listening but if I summarize it some may think its slanted to making two smart clued in people agree with what I am saying.

McMahon has intimated at least twice as of right now that Podz is not optional in the deal... no podz no deal. Indicated Kuminga not in the same bucket. Tony Jones also indicated on Bay Area radio that Kuminga was not necessarily who they are targeting. Talked about separate Kuminga deals where he is sent to a third party and couldn't find many spots.

Mentioned tanking and not half assing the tank.

This part is my guess reading the tea leaves. If GS puts Podz+Moody and all teh picks that will get the deal done (if we want to do a deal). They may be blowing smoke on Kuminga and that is actually the guy they want. May also be trying to leverage the Spurs... Zach mentioned Vassell as the potential holdup there.
