Minor detail about Lauri trade....Depending on the trade we might come away with significantly more cap space. We're saying ~$18M (or whatever it is) for the R+E....but if we traded him for Graham, for example, we would be opening up all that space in addition the difference in contracts. DET was the cap space leader, but after Harris they only have $24 left. A Lauri trade would put us in the poll position unless we take back significantly more salary than we send out.

Be real funny if we did end up getting Lavine, but it's a situation where he's the tank commander and we're the salary dump location.

It's going to be very difficult for our young guys to look good at all without Lauri.

This team without Lauri will be very difficult to watch aesthetically.
True, but they’d basically be back where they looked to be headed preseason 2022 - minus Conley, Olynyk, Vando, Beasley, NAW, Fontecchio and Lauri.

You forgot about Kenny. LOL yeah tanking isn't for the casuals. Good news is you can watch the games the next day instead of staying up late to watch them. The result will rarely be in question.

I'm very excited about the 2025 draft, and so I get it.

I don't think our our 2023 and 2024 draft picks will be able to develop as well without a guy like Lauri.

I agree. I also think that if you trade Lauri, you use your available cap space to sign some veteran guys to short term high dollar contracts to be stabilizing forces around a young roster. Guys like Kris Dunn, etc. But then you PLAY the young guys the bulk of the minutes.

The latter I do think is a valid concern. I'm a big advocate of developing your prospect alongside good players, and Lauri has a lot of aspects to his game that help them develop, including being a low usage guy who doesnt hog the ball.

Also with his humble team first attitude and hard work ethic he is a great exemplary star player to learn from.

I would absolutely prefer to keep him and build this young core around him - hoping to get lucky in a trade, signing or pick that opens things up to a contending window. We look at Mitchell and Gobert now, but they were the 27th and 13th picks in the draft. And they were clearly the lead dogs on a team that was flawed, but extremely successful.

Good thing about this ordeal is that there is almost zero pressure in dealing him.

So either we get a kings ransom, or the deal wont happen. Either option would be good for the Jazz.

Whatever is going on, nothing has happened, so I'm guessing the urgency isnt high. OKC bowing out of the Lauri race w/ the Hartenstein deal may make this less likely to happen than we all assume given its one less suitor to drive the price to Danny's taste.
