I just can't see anyone overpaying for Walker and it seems like that's what DA wants.

Maybe it works for the Hawks because they can overpay for Walker with the sweetener for them being us taking on Capella?

In no situation where both parties are rational is there a real possibility that Lauri walks with the possibility of an R&E that can give him a $24 million raise on just this season (and the Jazz are still way under the salary floor).

They can’t give him the contract and trade him to IND until the deadline. Any team that is trading for Lauri, which is what this thread is about, is taking on some degree of risk by trading for him in the off season.

Yeah it makes a lot of sense imo. Homecoming for Walker, JC makes sense for Atlanta, reunion with Quin. Capela we keep on the roster and keep him fresh for the trade deadline. Then either move him or waive him. Likely not getting anything for him but keep the contract just in case. Get the Kings pick which is solid but not spectacular.

We thin the herd.

My bad, I didn't connect that you were talking about IND through your whole post.

You have to get more than one pick. You cant give up Kessler and save the Hawks money for one mediocre pick.

Fairly dumb question: Can Lauri be traded prior the 6th and still get his extension from his destination team?
Only a fraction of what the Jazz can offer on his renegotiated 24-25 salary and only teams that still have cap room (there might not be any teams in the hunt that have cap space at this point, though, in which case, Lauri would be unable to receive a max extension).

Hawks don't have money issues anymore. Unless I'm missing something, they are under the tax and thus Clarkson would just make their cap situation worse bc Capela is expiring.

This makes the Pels a more intriguing buyer IMO. They need a cost effective C more than ATL does.

It get ms them some saving this year which don’t matter to us because we are currently below the floor. They take JCs deal on which has another year left. It saves both parties some money/space.

It gives them some breathing room but next year they need a center anyway. JC would be a good fit there as they will need some offensive creation.

Breathing room doesn't really matter, they are under. I doubt they'd want JC at neutral value...they'd rather just not have him on the books for next year, but I can see them tolerating JC's contract more than others. IMO, the cost dumping Clarkson is probably one first. So that can be how you get to two firsts value.
