This, my dream scenario, could really go south in a heartbeat if it turns into the Donovan Mitchell show with Johnny Bryant IMO! Sorry but I have no faith in that relationship instilling the necessary commitment and discipline for this team to succeed.
I always believed that the Don and friends era would be terrible. The team tank option only exists if Don demands out himself, so we're in for a lot of hurt. It's not a realistic possibility that we willingly trade Don without a trade demand. This idea of Ainge having the stones to do a full rebuild is not even worth a second thought because that's not an actual option. Don is the only person who can initiate the tank. It's not a FO decision.
I don't think it's terribly unrealistic that he does demand a trade this summer, however. And in the event he does, that's when Ainge can maybe show some muscle and negotiate the best deal, even if it means dragging it out like an Anthony Davis situation. Until then Ainge is making moves to appease Ryan, who wants to appease Don, who is handled by CAA, who runs the Knicks. God damn we're a laughingstock.

Yes but Ainge can simply just tell Ryan… hey… we can’t let Don pick the next coach. He picks the non JB option and that initiates the trade demand. He may not want to do it at all. He might think he can solve it… but he may not want his legacy to get tarnished as an executive by doing obviously dumb things. These guys are prideful… I can see a scenario where Ainge draws a line with CAA and it becomes the declaration of war.
I can also see old man Ainge just cruising for a few years and going with “the boss is always right” type of motto while we ride into perpetual obscurity.
I agree that it's unlikely the Jazz trade Donovan this offseason. I think they want to see what kind of team they can put around him before they consider moving him, and they may believe they have another year or two to do it.
However, Ainge just joined the organization 6 months ago, and now that the Jazz crapped on the lawn once more in the playoffs--1st round exit, no less, Ainge now has a mandate to make changes. There's nothing standing in his way, not even Quin Snyder. That's why I think the next 30 days are going to be fascinating. Ainge has bottom-line authority and I'm keen to see what he does with it. This isn't Dennis Lindsey or Justin Zanik. This is Danny Ainge, and ostensibly he's not a *****.

My point of view is that the Jazz don't have a franchise player to build around--not Rudy, not Donovan, or anyone else. I don't even care what Donovan's attitude towards playing in Utah is. Teams built around score-first combo-guards tend to top out in the 2nd round, at best. The history is extensive: Westbrook, Wall, Rose, Lillard, Irving, Beal, DWill, Booker, Walker, etc., etc.
The mistake the Jazz made was Dennis Lindsey believing that Mitchell and Gobert could form a championship foundation. Maybe he thought Gobert would develop more offensively. Who knows? But no one is going to hand the Jazz a franchise player. We have to go draft one.

Donovan has almost identical EFG% as Tatum, Luka, Trae, Booker, etc. He’s not nearly as inefficient as many of you think.
Yes, Donovan’s FG% this year was 1.1% higher. When you say efficiency, though, it’s more broad. Every other category (TS%, eFG%, FT%, 3PT%) all go another way.
