Exactly. Up to recently, it was a pretty common thing in Utah for Democrats to vote in Republican primaries for their "candidate of choice" because Dems are otherwise non sequitur in the state.
Like many of the other things we think we know this "fact" may or may not useful in helping us understand what led Routh to do what he's accused of doing. But North Carolina (as a swing state) does not have the same structural incentives as those that exist in Utah for independents/democrats to vote in republican primaries (or vice versa). So I think there needs to be a better explanation if you want to label him as a republican who chose to vote democrat in order to make his voice heard.

I mean, is having him cross over politically just for the primary possible? Sure, anything's possible. Is it likely or even something that has a decent probability? I have a harder time seeing that without something more persuasive than the Utah analogy.

EDIT: It's possible I may be misunderstanding your point. At least fish's comment that you're referring to seems to be more about where independents are allowed to vote in primaries. Is that your point? Upon first reading, it seemed your point was more about where independents vote to best make their voice heard (without reference to which party either does or doesn't allow their participation).

Typically presidential assassins have a profile. They're usually very low information, narcissistic, and want to make a name for themselves. Nothing more nothing less.

Quite frankly, Routhe reminds me of some posters here.

Voted for Trump in 2016. Voted for Biden in 2020. Became enamored with Gabbard. Then ended up wanting Vivek and Haley.

Trying to track that ideology is like trying to follow Jazzy's trolling on this website.

There's just no set of principles or ideology for Routhe. Just a rudderless narcissist wanting to make a name for himself. Yet another lowlife who had way too easy of a time getting his hands on a lethal weapon. This shouldn't happen in a civilized society. Unfortunately, we're the only industrialized country on earth that wants to provide any rube his own personal arsonal without any regulation.

Good news:

"The Washington, D.C trial judge Tanya Chutkan is currently considering how to proceed after the Supreme Court ruled on July 1 that Trump's presidential actions would have broad immunity from prosecution for presidential acts.

Her decision could be affected by Monday's decision by an Arizona federal judge.

Liberal-leaning attorney and legal analyst Norm Eisen wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday that Meadows' loss was bad news for Trump.

"Big loss for former Trump WH CoS Mark Meadows in Az, where he was trying to remove his state criminal case to federal court. DENIED because his 2020 coup conduct was unofficial. Suggests Trump's coup activity in his DC criminal case was also unofficial—& so not immune!" he wrote.

New York University law professor Ryan Goodman wrote that a federal court "rejecting Mark Meadows' removal claim in Arizona signals how the DC court will most likely reject Trump's immunity claim."

Goddamn this is the weirdest ************ in American politics, and that's saying a ****-load.

I wonder if it would have made a difference if it were a live whale's head
