Oh yeah, the story line was like a movie....a too good to be true moment at the exact moment he was needed.
Donovan endeared himself before he was drafted with this interview
Then he threw the fist bump and actually looked happy during his draft interview. Then he went on to post videos of him watching Stockton and Malone throwback games. Then he went to BYU and Utah football and basketball games. Then he dropped 41. Then he did an autograph signing that brought in over 2,500 people.
I could go on, but he’s honestly just been so....perfect honestly. Eventually there will be a bump or two in the road. But what this kid has done and the way he’s went about everything, he hasn’t had one misstep. The best part is, is even if it’s for a lot of PR, I believe every bit of it is sincere. He wants and has went out of his way to make this fan base love him. He didn’t have to. His play is plenty good enough, and his required interviews are plenty good enough that fans would still like him. The going out of his way is what’s caused everyone to be so in love.
I really truly hope that when he signs that max offer the Jazz will give him in a few years and after the thousands of interviews he’ll be doing he can still keep the zest and personality that makes him so infectious and he doesn’t lose himself. I don’t think he will, but you never know. The amount of interviews he’s done in the last week would probably boggle our minds, and yet yesterday he talked to every Utah news station, was the first one up to talk to the media during practice, and took time to take pictures with a couple hundred people last night. He’s special, and in 5 years I hope I can quote this post and nothing has changed.
