Unfortunately, you can't have 5 players playing as #1 options. Corbin did a really good job giving all 5 guys ample on-ball opportunities. It was probably more important for the Jazz to see what they had/have in Gordo, since he's a free agent this year.
 
One other thing i have been wondering about.......

Alot of people say that burks makes for a great 6th man because he is a natural scorer and can come in and provide a punch of the bench.
Wouldnt a prime Kobe or Wade or Carmello make a great 6th man (im saying burks is as good as them btw).

Now i get that you need scoring off the bench.... but dont you also need scoring in your starting lineup? Manu comes off the bench because they have a scorer in thier starting lineup (tony parker). Jamaal crawford comes of the bench because they have a scorer in thier starting lineup (blake griffin).

If we had a go to guy already then who was a better scorer than burks then it would make sense to bring burks off the bench. Who is our natural scorer that was in our starting lineup last year? hayward?

And if we draft a player known more for his defense this year (smart, gordon) or a really raw player (vonleh) then is the plan next year to continue to force a square peg (hayward) into a round hole (scorer in starting lineup)?

Just some thoughts

Read my latest post and answer me "who was that great number one option scorer in our starting lineup that makes it neccessary to bring burks (a natural scorer) off the bench?

Would it be ok to even have one number one option starting? Or is it better to have zero like last year?

Sorry, This is a decent answer. But i think we knew that gordo was not a number 1 after about 30 games.

Your argument has holes. AB was one of the top two most effective scorers on the team (ability to penetrate, shoot and get to the line). there are 30 teams in the league, you want your most effective scorers on the floor. this would mean that AB should have been in the top 60 in minutes. Additionally with our non-existent offense, I would have expected to see even more of AB. Add to this the fact that AB is young and could have easily shouldered more of the load.

35 minutes a game would have been nice.

1. Corbin wanted to stagger the young players' minutes so that all of them got opportunities to lead the offense. All 5 of the top young players on the team averaged 10+ field goal attempts per game, which is an incredibly rare feat for a collection of players this young.

2. Corbin wasn't comfortable with Gordo defending big, athletic wing players (the 3, primarily) and/or the trio of Burke-Burks-Gordo defending the perimeter together. RJ was a disaster defensively, so...

3. You don't necessarily want your most effective scorers on the floor. You want your most effective lineups on the floor. How the talent matches (and plays defense) matters; having 5 good iso scorers on the court who can't defend or play off-ball is a recipe for disaster.


I'm not sure what you think my argument was. I was only saying that additional minutes wouldn't have made that much difference in projecting Alec's ability. I'm not sure I'm all that convinced of that fwiw. I also think it's worth considering what the consequences of relegating Gordo to a secondary off-ball role would have been.

This part of your post is fair and maybe you are right.

The rest of your post sounds as if you believe corbin made all the right decisions and was a good coach just doing what any good coach would do.
