ESPN's Pelton Projects Jazz to Finish Third in the West...

... and win the Northwest Division. He is using RPM, projected playing time, and a few other odds/ends to make his predictions.

Getting back to the thread...

It appears to me that each year there are difference makers that change the dynamics of a team and affect these results dramatically. Houston and for large stretches of the season the Clippers WAY under-performed last year due to poor chemistry and the Griffin punchout. I think that the Mavs and Spurs often overachiev due to quality coaching. The Jazz were that team under Sloan when Raja Bell was our second best player...

Due to coaching, I expect that the Mavericks will make the playoffs yet again. Dirk is older, but I think that the addition of Barnes is a big increase since they got nothing out of Parson last season. I can't see them being out of the playoff hunt. I also see that as the main reason that OKC will be good even though many have taken them out of competition. They have a fine coach who is a difference maker in games.

Injuries also skew the results and the Blazers put such a huge load on 2 players that I could see them get decimated if one of the two drops.

I am not sure I see the Nuggets making the playoffs yet either.

But the data is certainly positive and seems to have some good correlation in a vacuum without the player attitudes, management day to day, coaching, injuries, heart, and other variables that aren't accounted for. That's what makes it fun!

Is he more pessimistic than @Loguphilahdlasdgrad?

So apparently the line between pessimism and optimism is drawn in the sand with the kool-aid of we are the greatest team ever this year because someone predicted it. I have made no pessimistic comments. I have expressed my disappointment we didn't try to make a stronger push for the top. Hopefully we do in the next year or 2, but we are not winning a championship this year. But you just keep chugging that kool-aid and make the prognosticators and the kool-aid the basis of all of your arguments.

No one that is positive about the moves made this offseason is making this argument either. What we are saying is that aside from the KD sweepstakes the Jazz are a clear winner this off season. You say a harder push to get into the top tier. No one made a harder push than Utah.

Aside from landing a superstar, which Utah had 0 chance of doing, what more do you want?

Yeah NAOS wtf?! GET OFF MY LAWN!!!

I have made no pessimistic comments.

Lol
You said our off season sucked and that we are no closer to a championship this year than last year.

That right there is pessimistic as ****

What a stupid question.

I'm saying we will get closer than we did last year you moron.

So in other words we won't win it all right? How is missing by one point and missing by 50 games any different. Losing is losing. Moron.

You spoke in degrees of "closer" to winning a championship and saying this year we are not any closer than last year. Stop sounding so stupid and just admit you were wrong.
It's like you want people to hate you lately. What happened to you to make you so down on the jazz while everyone else across the nation is high on them?

I never spoke in degrees of "closeness", you all have been and projected that on me. I made it clear my beef is I want the FO to go for it and either get the damn ring NOW or call flat on our faces and get a top 3 pick because in tired of being "close" every single year. In fact I made that clear in multiple threads. To me right now the only thing that I would settle for to make this a successful season is losing the championship on a last second shot (the only degree of close I'd accept) or ending up so deep in the lottery we run the risk of setting records going the other way. All because we took some rough chances to make it happen. We all know the moves we made does not make us a true contender. And if you hate me for being the one person to speak the truth that's on you buddy not me. But I'm just tired of every year getting all excited about adding the one washed up guy or young unproven player and patting ourselves on the back because this might be the year that CJ Miles finally turns that corner and becomes MJ, right?

So sure we will win some more games this year and JF will be abuzz with the wet dreams of knocking out the true contenders by some herculean feats of hoops magic, but I do not believe Boris Diaw is coming to lead us to the promised land, not this year, not next, until the FO decides to go for it. If you don't have LA somewhere in your team name you have to take some real risks to get there, that or wait for luck. I'm tired of luck ****ing us in the ***. I'm ready for some risk now.

I'm also not the one who got hostile about any of this. You and closet queen Cy started chucking the insults long before I did. And it's because you can't argue against it all.

Realistically we're not going any further than we have been and I'm done being ok with that.

I never spoke in degrees of "closeness"

Yes you did. You had a post a few days ago that said that the moves we made this off season did not get us any closer to a championship.

Sometimes it's better to just admit you were wrong.
Your choice though.

Do you have evidence that the jazz didn't try to get durant in free agency? Do you have proof that the jazz didn't offer gobert, favors, hayward, hood, exum, and Burks for lebron or steph curry?

Maybe they tried hard as **** to "go for it" but the other team wouldn't bite.

If log was running things he would just trade for lebron, cp3, steph curry, john wall, paul george, and get all the best players in free agency and have an all star team. I do like that plan. Stupid Dennis lindsey.

And then the Millers would go bankrupt and have to sell the team...
