Eurobasket 2011: Turkey - Poland Starting Now!

I must say I was very impressed by Kanter today. Great defense, and passing ( he had no assists before this game ). 19pts, 5 reb, 3 ast, 1 blk... prety good stat line in 23 min of play. To bad Turkey veteran's ego must be hurting to play through Kanter most of the time as he was abusing smaller poland forwards at will

Turkey's problem is at all times, their 3 perimeter players are all looking to be 1 on 1 players. Poland had a bunch of team guys, then 1 guy on the floor who could create for himself if needed. They play team ball for stretches, then once they get a lead, or they are pressured, they revert back to errant jump shots.

Obviously, Hedo and Preldzic have tunnel vision at times too, but at least they attack the rim from time to time. Onan is a defensive pest and a gamer. He's not looking for his shot all the time either. I've been impressed with him throughout these games, and think he should be their primary point guard.

His defense was **** as well. Worst player for Turkey today, from start to finish.

GO BIG! 7 productive players willing to pound the ball inside and play D, who cares if only one of them is a guard (Onan)? Preldzic and Hedo can both handle the ball very well, and Ersan and Kanter have shown an ability to shoot when they have to. Poor coaching. Far too rigid.

onan is sg, he cant play pg. He is a good role player, but we have only 2 pgs brough to the tourney. Ender arslan isnt that good, he is just fast and can go to the rim quickly. Kerem is normally very good player, and has a good career but today i agree he ****ed it up, tomorrows game is going to be as exciting as the final of this tourney

Turkey should just go big, and play these 6 guys big minutes:

Asik
Kanter
Ilyasova
Hedo
Preldzic
Onan

These guys at least tend to play tough D and try to get the ball to the basket (Hedo being the exception...but he makes good things happen sometimes). The rest of the team is junk. Pure garbage.

Edit: Savas deserves more minutes too. The coach should just be committed to playing BIG. The scrub guards aren't helping. Playing Ersan at the 3 is the solution.

Don't forget Savas. He has played very good for limited minutes and play alongside Kanter well. He actually played better than Asik today.

oh man,,i dont know what to say.funny thing is there is no way GB is vinning over Poland,lets just hop for spain losing against LTU,than turkey wining over spain tomorrow,which willl bring 3 teams with same points,turkey vin over spain,spain vin over poland,poland vin over turkey would bring us to point advantage

Onan has everythng but ballhandling, thats why he cant play pg you are wrong this time my men. But right about defensive pest and stuff, he is a good role player. Kerem was disappointing so far, but last year he had major part in our road to the finals, especially in serbia game

after lithuania game i actually thought we could easily make the semi final, but this is like a disaster if we leave the tournament so early. The bad thing is if spain loses today, they have to win the last game as well and it will be like an nba finals tense game

Does Spain start Marc and Pau? Or Ibaka and Pau? Either way, starting Kanter alonside Asik would be a good move to combat their size and strength.

Both Preldzic and Hedo are better with the ball in their hands than Arslan or Tunceri. The Turks have plenty of other players who can handle the ball, so it shouldn't matter if Onan is a shooting guard. He can defend the point far better than Tunceri, and he doesn't make such poor decisions.

Those are Turkey's best players right now. In a must win game, you shouldn't be so rigid that you feel it necessary to play Tunceri and Arslan 40 minutes combined because Onan isn't a good ball handler. Again, Hedo and Preldzic are both better point guards than Tunceri. Terrible coaching decisions in the fourth quarter.

Well, I guess we should be rooting for Lithuania today then. How much did they beat Poland by? I mean Poland only lost to Spain by 5 points, so maybe Lithuania has a decent chance.
