Falling out of love with Al Jefferson

His post game interview made me feel like a major douche. I like the guy, a lot. I really hope he keeps getting better and has more games like tonight and less like last night.

AJ is not really a center. He's playing a bit out of position. He's still a 20/10 guy who tries on defense. There aren't many people in the league you could replace him with. Boozer wouldn't do any better against Tim Duncan than Al did, that's for sure.

Also, you're not going to get AJ to play with the same hustle and energy as Millsap. He's 280 lbs. You need to compare him to players like Chris Kaman and Kendrick Perkins.

Can Big Al dunk it? Has anyone seen him do it? He had a clear chance against Port last night and wound up double pumping it against the glass when 99/100 nba players would have slammed it home with two hands.

He's dunked several times with Utah.

He played well last night. The Jazz need for that to be the norm, rather than the exception.

Is there really this little patience with Jefferson? He's got all the skills you could want. He just doesn't see all the moving pieces in the offense yet. He's going to be a force in 20-25 games, and he's pretty good now.

Maybe, but he's missed too many easy layups.

At least once a night, and often several times, Al botches a pick and roll or isn't completely ready for a pass. It's not because he sucks, it's because he's still figuring this all out. A couple games ago CJ zinged a beautiful pass off a drive he didn't see. Last night in the first, Deron made a similar pass in the first and he was late rolling and couldn't handle it. There was even a later moment where Phil called him over. Passes come fast in our offense.

In EVERY instance, the camera cuts to Al pointing himself out and smiling. When he's on board he'll be cutting on instinct and those passes won't be surprises. When he catches them in rhythm he'll be instantly better.

Also keep in mind AJ has been moved over to the Center Position, from primarly a Power Forward spot, and he has never really played in an offense that had a system.

- Doesn't jump for rebounds... he seems to wait for them to fall in his hands.

That's my biggest problem. Every game I find myself yelling at the TV; "Jump for the board!!"

He just stands there...and doesn't box out well enough to not be jumping for a rebound. The guy could be a hell of a difference if he'd play some aggressive defense and use his strength for what it should be used.

Oh, and please...no more push shots. They're too risky for how often he doesn't hit them.
