Federal Court Overrules Brady's Suspension

The rule itself is dumb.

Why not let players use the footballs at what air pressure they want? It's not like they would deflate it too much. You wouldn't be able to throw it. It would work out because they all use their own balls too. It's not like basketball where you are sharing the ball.

I don't understand why their is such a big deal about this. Who cares. I'm glad Brady got off.
I agree. I think they should let every team put as much pressure in the ball as they want.... That would be fair since they all could do it.

Or they use one set of balls that both teams share that don't get altered.
Either way is fine.

It was dumb to give each team their own set of separate football's and tell them not to mess with them though

I definitely wanted Brady suspended, cheating is cheating. Goodell standing strong at 4 games was ridiculous though. It should have been a 1 game suspension. He should have settled with Brady somehow. Maybe agree that Brady wouldn't have to admit to any wrongdoing, but would have to take a 1 game suspension. It would have saved teh NFL a lot of money and time. If I was a former player who was suffering from concussion issues I'd be pretty mad that the NFL spent so much money on a petty issue instead of making good use of the money.

So.. he did deflate the ball. But there is no rule that said you can't?

Amazing if true... how many times has he done this in the Final? And is his Legacy now tainted regardless of the rulings?

No, there are rules. The NFL was just retarded in how they handled everything so the judge ruled that the NFL is retarded and nothing they did in the case made any sense, so Brady got off because of Goodell's over zealousness.

Hmm..K .. but if it is against the rule a 4 game suspension seems light to me.. shouldn't the Patriots be stripped off their Championship status for doing something so illegal?

No, 4 games is a lot. The punishment should fit the crime. Deflating the balls by a little bit isn't a big deal. Everyone recognizes this, they were just mad because everyone hates the Pats. So it was a good laugh to say 4 games, thinking they would lower it for a settlement. Brady offered to take a game suspension without admitting guilt. Goodell should have taken that.

I think you getting caught with a first offense PED. So to say taking PED's is equivalent to deflating a football by a couple of PSI doesn't really make sense, which is a point the judge made.

It still gave the Patriots the edge though right? Since it IS against the rule?

The final score was 28-24, I mean that to me is a pretty close game. If I were a Seahawks fan I'd be pissed about that.

How can you say you only broke the rule by a little bit but that is OK? A rule is a rule right? You can't just cheat "a little bit" and still be the winner.

You break the law and not all punishment are the same.

You rape someone and you are going to get a different jail time than if you just beat the **** out of them. Is that hard to understand? It's a basic rule of thumb for any kind of enforcement of laws or rules.

I'm not saying he broke the rules "by a little bit", I'm saying the rule he broke is a very minor one.

Yeah but sports is different though, if you get caught taking drugs even just a little bit do you not get disqualified?

It's not different.

Pete Rose bets on baseball, banned for life.

Alex Rodriguez does steroids, he is playing baseball after serving a suspension.

Ron Artest punches fans in arena, banned for season.

Players punch each other in a small fight, suspension are levied based on who did the most damage.

Taking a PED does not = deflating a football. The suspension for taking a PED when caught for the first time in Football is 4 games. To say that deflating a football is equivalent is ridiculous.

Wow, that is lenient. In the Olympics if you're caught taking performance enhancing drugs you're automatically stripped of your medals.

And to me that's how it should be. To me if what you did unlawfully gave you an advantage over your opponent, giving yourself an unfair advantage, then you simply should not be declared the winner.

Fair is fair.

Let's not forget just how flawed the Wells report actually was:

https://www.aei.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/On-the-Wells-report.pdf

Abstract:

In the current “Deflategate” controversy, the New England Patriots have been accused of illicitly deflating footballs before the start of their 2015 American Football Conference championship game against the Indianapolis Colts. The National Football League and the lawyers it hired have produced a report—commonly known as the “Wells report”—that has been used to justify penalties against the Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady. Although the Wells report finds that the Patriots footballs declined in pressure significantly more than the Colts balls in the first half of the game, our replication of the report’s analysis finds that it relies on an unorthodox statistical procedure at odds with the methodology the report describes. It also fails to investigate all relevant scenarios. In addition, it focuses only on the difference between the Colts and Patriots pressure drops. Such a difference, however, can be caused either by the pressure in the Patriots balls dropping below their expected value or by the pressure in the Colts balls rising above their expected value. The second of these two scenarios seems more likely based on the absolute pressure measurements. Logistically, the greater change in pressure in the Patriots footballs can be explained by the fact that sufficient time may have passed between halftime testing of the two teams’ balls for the Colts balls to warm significantly, effectively inflating them.

------------------------------

This judge was not ruling on Brady's guilt/innocence. But the Wells Report and the 4 game suspension was a railroading, regardless. Our reporters here in southern New England are reporting Brady would have accepted one game, but the NFL said 3. The Wells Report was written with the conclusion already decided. Then weave the case as best you can. And man, what a terrible job they did. So Goodell now appeals and aims for a suspension in 2016, lol.

Here's a summary of the more scientific analysis outlined above. No matter what really happened in that game or any Brady game, this report did not agree with the Wells Report conclusions, and why let Wells railroad anybody?

Well proving his guilt aside, on principle, if an athlete cheats with an intention to gain an unfair advantage, that athlete (or team) should be disqualified in my opinion.

That's how it's done in the Olympics and I believe that is the gold standard.

It didn't happen in the Super Bowl. It happened the game before in which the Pats won by about 40.
