Not necessarily the 'white' part, but yes, partially true.
Calipari never plays more than about 8 guys.. so he gives 5 guys scholarships for being practice guys and great students.... that helps a ton.
Also, UK has a tutor assigned to every player and if their grades dip below a certain gpa the tutor is permitted to spend as many hours as necessary. This is a paid tutor... more of an actual teacher. They have tons of advantages other kids don't have at other universities.. but I can still be proud of the hard work they put in. Patrick Patterson started the 'way' by working and studying during every road game instead of time off from school. He got his degree in 3 years through hard work. Darius Miller followed suit.. Jon Hood.. then Knight, etc. Its become a real culture. Cal is Very good at getting these guys to view their lives as a total career move from the day they step on campus.
