Following potential 2013 draftees

Sure. Lillard is a better pro prospect than any PG this year appears to be, but he was a senior. Beal is so-so, especially for a #4 pick. This year's class will do pretty well.

Beal was actually the 3rd pick. And I'd probably take him over McLemore.

Time for me to live up to my moniker.

If they all declare, here's my ideal, realistic draft if we don't get our PG of the future (and I'm frankly not sure he's out there -- I'm having a hard time seeing anything beyond good backup for Burke). It's based on the assumption that this draft isn't yielding anything (esp. where we're picking) beyond role players, so let's find some good role players to back up AB, GH, DF, EK, MW, DC, JE (the most likely to be back over the longer haul). They may not contribute much next year, but could be quite helpful down the line:

CJ McCollum (we really still need shooting, scoring; he'll probably do OK as backup PG)
Kyle Anderson (long term project, but if he turns into even an average athlete/shooter could be a steal -- possibly great glue guy)
Mitch McGary (in 3 years I want him taking the 15 minutes that Favors doesn't get -- tough, big, good mobility, great energy, reason to hope that he can develop some adequate offense down the line)

Oh, and we need to figure out how to bring Tomic over. He'd fit wonderfully with with either Favors or as a backup with McGary. The more I study it, and with this year's really questionable draft, I think he has rookie-of-the-year potential. Seriously.

Of course I'll probably change my mind about all these things next week. But this combination, even if we expect them to be nothing more than backups, addresses real needs we'll have (esp. if we let our FAs walk) at shooting, scoring, rebounding, energy, passing, low post play and should be able to provide adequate defense eventually.

Good post, Idiot. Keep in mind, when you're drafting at #13, you're lucky to get anyone who is more than a back-up regardless of the draft.

The last time we picked #13, we drafted Ronnie Brewer.

McDermott will translate in a Linas Kleiza sorta way. He has better touch and shooting percentages than Harpring had as a senior.

I could see Marcus Smart having an impact in the league close to Gary Payton even though they are different body types. He could be a strong defensive presence whose offense is coming along.

It's not legal to be that good at defense anymore.

I really think Smart could develop into Deron Williams with less natural PG ability. Like Dwill needed to when entering the NBA, I think Smart needs to drop his weight to help him speed up a bit for the NBA. Make him lighter on his feet.
