Following potential 2015 draftees

If he is successful it will be as a stretch 4. Otherwise he'll end up like Earl Clark, Aminu, and Thad Young (this actually wouldn't be that bad).

I'm fine with him at 12 but have little hope he is a 3 and D wing guy. I didn't like him when we were in the 6-8 range because I thought other guys were better prospects. I think his worst case is a Udonis Haslem lunch pail type of backup big. Best case he is a better shooting/longer Thad young. Probably less ball skills though.

He has shown a way better jumper than any of those 3 players.

Thad shot 42% on 3s on twice as many attempts as Looney and 74% from the free throw line in college so I guess you are wrong there... Aminu is a bad shooter so I'll give you that one. Earl Clark shot 37% from 3 his freshman year in a small sample size.

Looney had a small sample size from 3 so it is tough to use that and declare him a good shooter and he hasn't shown the other perimeter skills those guys have. He also shot 63% from the line so I'm not sure he is a way better shooter than any of the 3.

I don't doubt that he can shoot... think I read somewhere that he was a good perimeter shooter in HS and he did good in really limited attempts from 3 in college. I fail to see how anyone watched him play at UCLA and thinks he'll be a wing player. He's a PF who shows very occasional flashes of perimeter playmaking. Blake Griffin does that too, but no one is saying he is a 3.

imagine what a summer at P3 could do for looney

right now i have in order of bigs

looney
portis
lyles

My issue with Looney is his ability to finish around the rim. For a guy with that kind of length, I want to see him get above the rim more, or at least show touch around the basket. I'll have to go back and look, but his lack of scoring in the paint was worrisome. He rebounds well in traffic and his motor is good, making him at least a better version of Marvin Williams, imo.

Cedi Osman had a decent game against a very good Real Madrid team. He is a solid defender on Euroleague level and with some added strenght I think he can be a good defender on NBA level too. Needs to improve his shot but other than that he is fluid and versatile. Currently mocked 48 by draftexpress. I am torn between him and Vezenkov for our second rounder. I think we will draft someone we can stash.

My main concern would be his strength. If he's gonna be banging it inside as a PF in the NBA he'll need a hell of a lot more strength than what he has now.

If he can guard the 3 he can play the 3. I'm not expecting him to be a playmaking 3, just one who can defend his position, run teh floor, and hit open shots.

Watch Looney try to score in the paint in this analysis. This is why I prefer Portis. If we're talking Looney, I'd also want to bring Dekker back into the conversation.

What if I found some video of Portis going 1/14 vs. Georgia? Would that change your mind?

If you say to me you're playing Looney primarily at the 3 but only spot minutes at the 4, then I'm game.

But you're right, then we'll have to talk about comparing: Looney, Oubre, Dekker
