Following Potential 2020 draftees

Lots of people have talked about Killian Hayes top 5. Some like Kevin O'Connor at TheRinger have even said he's the best prospect.

Jaden McDaniels at 28 doesn't surprise me either. I mean he sucked. Bad.

I think if he played with Coach K at Duke he would have had a different outcome. I also think his game is better suited to the NBA than college. He was doing a lot of stupid 1-on-3 drives into traffic that had nowhere to go. At this stage, he needs to play off of screens and pin-downs to get some space. He's not a threat to drive all the way to the rim until he gets stronger. I still think he could be comparable to Brandon Ingram, but like Ingram, it's going to take a few years before he's ready physically.

He underperformed, but he wasn't as bad as, say, Skal Labissiere.

Also how about Deni Avdija @15?!?!?

How do y'all feel bout the Jazz trading up for him if he free-falls?

I don't think he will free fall. If he did, the Jazz would have to consider it, but they don't have much to trade up with. All they have is Tony Bradley and a couple extra 2nd-rd picks. I think they're keeping Royce to play or put in a bigger trade.

The Jazz can stay where they are and get Maldeon, Green, McDaniels, Reed, Bolmaro, etc.

I could see them trade up a few spots for Saddiq Bey or maybe Pokusevski. Like #24 and two 2nds for #19. Maybe someone wants Rayjon Tucker and that's worth a few draft slots.

Guys I'm guessing they really like -- Nesmith, Vassell, Williams, etc. -- are going to be too far out of range, imo.

The Jazz need a player who looks like Jeff Green, but plays with toughness and competitive fire. They need to ask themselves seriously if they think they can fix Paul Reed's jump shot. If they can, they could have a player like Josh Smith, but without the stupid.

So either you draft McDaniels and bet you can improve his body and mental toughness, or you draft Reed and bet you can improve his jumper and unlock whatever ball skills he has. Either way, you get a 6'9" / 220-lb, two-way combo forward with a 7'+ wingspan.

Or... you try to trade up somehow and draft Patrick Williams.

They say he's 6'10" now so could even backup Rudy at center.

Glad there's Paul Reed fans here... DePaul was one of the more entertaining teams in D1 this year IMO...

What do y'all think of his teammate 6'7" swingman Romeo Weems?

I want the Jazz to draft Achiuwa or Reed. That's like the ideal realistic outcome imo. We need athleticism, length and defensive versatility at the backup 4 behind Bojan. We also need a small ball 5 to better matchup situationally against teams like the Rockets when Rudy rests.

I know the argument against would be their lack of shooting. But our offense has plenty of spacing now. We have plenty of shooters and different offensive lineups we can put on the floor. And it's not like Achiuwa and Reed show absolutely no potential to shoot. I think the possibility exists where they can get to the point where the defense can't completely leave them.

Right now between the two I think I'd go with Achiuwa. He has big time athleticism for his size. He can switch on to guards. He has that nasty edge in him that our team lacks sometimes. He's a dawg. Competitive. He has a nonstop motor. He hustles on the glass. Runs the floor hard. He possesses a mix of the things Favors and Crowder brought to the table that we miss.

But getting either would be a W.

I think we should go full MLE with a legit stretch 4 who can hit the 3 and rebound and draft the best 1/2/3 we can. Could be a pure point. Could be a combo guard. Could be a 2/3.

Which legit Stretch 4 do you have in mind in free agency? The Jazz do need a Trevor Ariza/Luol Deng-type at the 4, but I don't see who is available. Millsap is getting old. Aminu or Harkless could be available in a trade, but they're limited shooters. The Jazz might be able to get enough from Brantley or Juwan Morgan.
