Following Potential 2025 Draftees

He's leagues better than Chomche as a prospect.

Based on? Really not much to report on with Beringer yet, he's barely played and it's not like he's producing a ton when he does. He's 6'10, 7'4 wingspan, and appears to be a decent athlete playing against low level competition. Can't really tell much about his defensive instincts and awareness which will be the most important thing for him. I don't think you're wrong in saying that he has the potential to be a backup C, but that's not exactly what you think of in the lottery.

Much better instincts/IQ and doesnt try to be a shooter. Better athlete and has higher competition experience playing the role he's going to play in the NBA.

That's my reasoning as to why it's a weak class. I don't think it's crazy to think the he could go lottery, but that's because of how weak the depth is of this draft and I would not consider him a lottery quality prospect in any other draft. There really aren't meat and potatoes players, so sure....might as well go for a moldable ball of clay and theoretical player like Beringer. The bar isn't set very high.

He looks like a good athlete and he just started playing ball, but it's not like he has freakish measurables for a C. I don't see him very differently from Chomche last year. I think he has a long way to go, and it's not exactly shooting for the moon to be looking at a potential backup C.

Theoretically, he can guard 3 or even 5 positions, and he should be as viable a rim-runner type as Asa Newell, who is often talked about as a mid 1st-rd prospect or even higher. He does have a way to go, both physically and skillwise. I think of him more as a big who will get taken in the 20s and onward. If he shows shooting touch in workouts, that will help his cause.

He has a few offensive signals that compare with Daniel Gafford at Arkansas, but you'd be drafting him based on projection mostly.

Newell is a million times more skilled at the moment, but I get why Beringer is in the conversation. I think it’s just a poor reflection of a draft if at the end of the lottery you’re looking at guys who are both very far away with the hope of being a backup/role player.

I’m not really seeing Beringer as some kind of defensive savant or elite level defender. Yes he is young, but that’s not an automatic indication he will has a high level of feel/IQ/instincts. Looks like he just started playing ball on film, it can improve but how much? Doesn’t really pop as an elite athlete to me on film either. He looks like a good athlete with a good frame, but there are levels to this. Physical attributes also don’t automatically mean you can defend well. Like you said, it’s just a projection at this point he doesn’t have any meat and potatoes to his case.

I would go with Newell at this point, but I think whoever I have in that 8-14 range I will feel like they aren’t up to standard for a late lotto pick. Newell is theoretical as well, but I see more potential for him if he can add more shooting and perimeter skill.

I’d have Essengue ahead oh him as well, but I do understand the appeal of Beringer who has a more defined role even if he’s further away.

Full DX top 100. I can't believe Beringer has moved up so much, shows the weak strength of this draft after 6.

Never mind what happens in the future. It seems playing with Flagg was the best and most important career move for both Knueppel and McSweeney. JFC... if they both go in the Top 15, I'll lose whatever hope I had left for humanity.

I've only seen a few clips and game recaps of Berringer, but he looks like a draft and stash guy to me. He's pretty far away from being an NBA player. The middle of the draft is weak, but not that weak.

CMB with 35pts on 16fga.

That dude is a beast.

Think Sorber was leading the race for me in terms of dominant NCAA bigs with somewhat questionable fit….but CMB might have that spot for me now.

CMB
Sorber (if his health is fine)
Queen
Newell
Wolf

That’s probably how I’d have it now. All of these guys are first rounders in the 10-25 range for me. Could argue that Toppin belongs here too.

John Hollinger wrote a piece for Athletic few days ago where he said Flagg is undeniable #1 and #2 is a debate between Harper and VJ.

Its also obvious he isnt that high on Bailey and indicated that GMs have to squint hard and project to justify him at #4.

Is Hollinger cooked? Is he more of a journalist than scout these days?

Hollinger usually gets some stuff right. IIRC he had Filipowski 9th and Collier 12th.

I may not share these opinions with Hollinger, but I don’t find these opinions to be that crazy. Harper is a strong consensus #2, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to leave that door open.

Watched every byu game this season.

I think Saunders will be able to score. He is skilled and strong. He gets a small edge as the focal point off ball actions and has the strength to finish through contact. The concern is what position can he guard. I think he lacks the quickness to guard shooting guards and get over screens. So is he a scoring backup small forward at six five? And I doubt he will be a strength plus guy in the NBA.

Demin on other hand is a strength minus player right now. He would be the best a mid post guy against guards. That is not what BYU does. When he drives he gets knocked off by hand checking. I would say his shot isn’t broken but his footwork and base is inconsistent. Defensively he can stay in front. To me it is all about adding strength and reps to improve his footwork.

He's probably similarly skilled to a Sam Merrill? Though Merrill is a hyper elite shooter as evidenced by his FT%, which Saunders isnt. Saunders has better size though (ever so slightly, so not a big advantage), but less overall tertiary skills, but those may not matter all that much in the role he projects to play.
