What's new

Gail Miller rewards Jazz executives that do a bad job. Your input.

We'll it's happened again. Dennis Lindsey (previous GM of the Jazz) has been promoted for doing a horrible Job. (Again? you ask?) Yes. KOC, was notorious for making terrible decisions as our previous GM and was promoted on August 6th 2012, and we brought Dennis Lindsey in as our new GM.
Ok, so the first thing that everybody will argue is that Dennis Lindsey drafted Donovan Mitchell as well as put together the trade with Denver that brought Rudy Gobert to the Jazz back in 2013.
He also made many foolish mistakes. Not trading for Hayward when it was obvious that he was leaving the Jazz and going to sign with the Celtics. Trading Kanter for absolute peanuts. Trading Alec Burks and two 2nd round picks for a 38 year old Kyle Korver who is retired bound.
Trading Rodney Hood (Jazz 2nd leading scorer) and Joe Johnson for Crowder and Derrick Rose (who we cut immediately). We continue to trade to get older and deal all of our young homegrown assets for nothing. We watched all of our competition make moves in last years off season only to do nothing.
But yet we promote DL and put him in control of even more power and responsibility. It's like the Jazz celebrate failure.

I agree 100%
Go be a lakers fan if you think jazz management is bad!! Then call me in the morning.

Again you have a foolish comment for facts. Are you 5 or something?

Right, let's take this one by one.

Hayward: You can't trade an Free Agent.
Kanter: The Jazz got a first out of it. That's about all you are going to get for a disgruntled player. That pick turned into Rubio, who we were all high on at the time.
Burks: The Jazz got a shooter in Korver who was supposed to help address shooting deficiencies at the time. Beyond that, his contract next year is only guaranteed for 3.4m, so if he retires this summer, the Jazz aren't hamstrung.
Hood and Johnson: The Jazz weren't resigning Hood and Johnson wanted elsewhere. The deal netted a player we wanted (including the fans) at the time and happens to like Utah. Forgive me for being cynical on your assessment of the situation.

The Jazz ran it back last off-season because they wanted to see what they could do with what they had. The roster ripped off a hell of an impressive an impressive streak once Gobert got back and Rubio showed some semblance of an outside shot. Even then, the team improved a bit this year in terms of win total, despite the fact Ricky laying enough bricks to do Habitat for Humanity proud. But we can retool the team pretty easily, so meh.

I see his only failure as Exum, and by comparison to other deals and team situations, it's not atrocious. So where you get this idea of "legacy of failure" I have no idea. I do want some of what you're smoking though.

Ok so have you forgotten the Conley deal and not throwing in the bust poster child ?

Letting Niko go to another team for nearly nothing?

How about him not trying for Jabari?

Better yet not trying to grab Otto ?

Selling us excuses, guys nobody wanted to come here in free agency? No great trades were available? I'm too conservative, I suck in drafts I got lucky with Donovan but I re-signed a bust. I paid too much for a senior citizen who will retire this year.

He was a crappy GM. Just face it. Sadly I hope this new gm helps us evolve to take the next step since DL and KOC were a joke. Gail doesn't seem to know what's going on, if Larry was here (God rest his soul) things would be way different.

You might want to let the league and other GMs specifically know that DL sucks. Jazz are voted top 10 FO regularly. Heavy emphasis on DL in their praise.

But sure, Armchair GM Lakers slapped knows better

Great so How many Western conference have we got to since DWill and Booze ? Yeah last year was huge but not doing anything this year cost us dearly. Not doing anything to help at the trade deadline sealed it. Getting Korver barely did much in the post season.

Besides a lucky trade to get Mitchell, what has he done? Yes Quin was his doing but I think our coach deserves more credit than DL, he works with what we have and DL doesn't give him much. See the miss trades at the deadline.

I agree that running it back was a mistake. Agreed.

Go argue the leagues view of the Jazz FO with them.

My point is that the people in the know say different than what we see here.

Most of our opinions are based off rumors. Like Exum holding up the Conley trade. We don’t know that’s the case. It’s just rumor.

But I’m on record saying that DL has to hit it big now or we need to find someone who will.
Maybe Zanik is that guy. We will see

The leagues views on our fo is based on consistency. We have been for the most part. But we haven't did enough to get us to the next level. We seem content on just making the playoffs. Yes we are in a stacked up Western conference but that's no excuse. Remember Gobert and Mitchell are closely watching our moves do we want them to leave ? Every pick, every signing and every trade moving forward is so valuable. We waisted a year. How far did the team slogan get us? That team will get dismantled.

I have followed the jazz for over 30 years man, being Canadian and in Toronto I see what the raptors have done to take it to the next level. It's not fair too compare but they have the same struggles as we do but still imho they do more to be competitive.

The strength of the team is the team will be modified we need changes desperately to take us to the next level. In my opinion DL was wasting us away, hopefully this new GM can help us evolve.

I’d give Lindsey a C+. I think finding talent in free agency in Utah is far harder than most of us imagine. So far as trades, it seems as if some have been on the table but he’s not pulled the trigger. I’m not sure if those times (Conley) were the right move or not. Often I think we should’ve traded for him and at other points I believe he made the prudent move by not trading for a 31 year old. My biggest gripes would probably be his weak draft classes and trading of 2nd round picks. We could’ve done better in that regard more consistently. Oh yeah, and the signing of Exum to that dollar amount/years is a little frustrating.

So your entire hate stems from moves that didn't happen. You do realize that there have to be 2 parties or more interested? Most of those moves that didn't happen that you named wouldn't have helped. Jabari? No thanks. Otto Porter is seriously overpaid now. Conley? I wish it had happened but at the time agreed with him be too expensive, and they were not winning a title this year with him anyway. Niko? Most over rated player on this board, he's okay but not the savior some seem to think.

If nothing happens this off season I'll be pissed, but I'm okay with the stuff that has happened so far.

Are you ok with the standing pat ?

The re-signing of Bustum ? That was his doing . How do you feel about that ?

Overpayment on the Burks trade ?

Yes I was okay with standing pat, that roster had a historic run.
I thought they overpaid a little on Exum and feel if he was healthy he was worth it, it doesn't look good now.
They didn't over pay on the Burks trade, Korver made the team better than Burks did.

Nikko went for Stanley Johnson, filler salary, and 4 2nd round picks for 1/2 season rental. That is not not nearly nothing that is a huge overpay and great job DL for not even trying to match that.

Jabari Parker and Bobby Portis were traded for Otto Porter. We could not have got either side of that deal. So stop being silly and pretending we could have easily got either player in that.

Conley would be nice but he is old and has a huge long salary. Its not just Exum, its the fact that they were asking for way too much. Good job DL for not doing that. There are better options coming up.

If DL cant do anything this summer in trades and FA then we can say he is doing a bad job. But a lot of what he has set up is for this off-season which is one of the best FA classes. Not many teams set themselves up for it like he did.

There is a good reason we ran our team back. We played very well last season together and had a good run into the 2nd round where we were very injured. This year we simply missed easy open shots in a series against one of the top teams in the NBA. That has nothing to do with DL. We had the worst shooting percentages on open shots in the NBA despite getting the most open shots in the NBA. If we had shot anywhere close to our regular season average we easily win games 3 and 5.

Overpayment on the Burks trade ?

Exum's deal was fine. You cant predict injuries like that. Its also too soon to call him a bust, he is 23. He can get healthy again just fine.

Many people thought we would have to give up a 1st to dump Burks who many thought was a bad deal for the same reason as Exum. Burks could not stay healthy for awhile. But he has gotten healthy but could not get playing time for any of the other teams that have had him. We got a very good shooter that we really needed. We got better when we got Korver and we got a rotational player. Burks was just end of the bench guy for us. Giving up a couple late 2nd round picks to upgrade a player who is out of the rotation to a contributing player is worth it. Unfortunately Korver got hurt going into the playoffs. It was bad timing.
