What's new

Game thread: jazz play a game in a couple of hours, the Timberpups edition.

While I've certainly done my share of defending Trey over the last year or so I have to say there is a lot of validity to this statement - Last night's game plan and Burke's 21 FGA's were kind of a head scratcher. T-Wolves have no one to defend the post. They lead the league in points given up in the paint. Jazz actually got outscored in the paint last night and scored more points in the paint Monday night against LAC who has one of the best rim protectors in the league.

Look, a win is a win. I'm glad to get them anyway against any team - but if they kept pounding the ball inside last night it probably would have been a cake walk. I kept waiting for the law of averages to catch up with Trey and see him go clank city. Jazz were lucky that didn't happen.

This. I couldn't understand why Trevor Booker got so much time last night, while Kanter and Rudy had their minutes cut. Trevor was pretty ineffective until the 3rd qtr, but Kanter had already posted a double double by half time. I like Quin, but sometimes he misses the obvious mismatch.

Also, LMAO @ Rev 9, thinking we should be impressed with Trey.

Hayward -26 pts
Trey - 26 pts.

Difference is, Hayward only took 16 FGA's.

I truly hope Trey plays himself into a decent trade, but it is going to take a lot for me to think he is actually an efficient player, or one that we should keep long term. I'm in the canp that his antics and limitations actually hurt the development of our other players.

PG's generally don't get to the line as much as #1 options. Hayward passed up a few shots early in the game. Seriosuly, you're complaining about a guard shooting 47% overall and 50% on his 3's last night? Does he sometimes shoot too much? Yes - and a lot of times when he's cold. But Trey had the hot hand; you ride a player who is in the zone. We criticize Exum for being timid, but we want Trey driving less? If Trey gets the same opportunities and is shooting as well as he did last night, let him take 18 FG's. And then when teams feel they have to stop him, they start leaving Kanter or someone else open.

Even if the Jazz were undefeated, many on this board would still be saying that Trey or Kanter or Favors suck. During the Stockton/Malone Finals years if this board had existed, people would be clamoring for Jerry to be fired.

Trey does suck. One game doesn't a player make.

Not as big of an issue in this game as normal. Yes Hayward is more efficient, no surprise there. But Burke still shot 47.6%, 50% from 3 with 6 asists, 4 rebounds and no TOs. He had a good game and not acknowledging that smacks of hating for the sake of hating.

He has shown that he can do it. Question now is will he do it enough to matter?

The man underneath you obviously thinks he still has upside. I'm at least encouraged by the work QS is doing with Trey. Harpring noted one of the things they've been working on actually resulted in a basket last night. Trey is never going to be 6'5" or make the all-defensive team. But if he can improve his shooting to the 45%/38% range, he can perhaps be a mid-level starter, and possibly - if Dante develops - one of the best backups in the league. Or a solid trade chip.

I am not complaining about Trey's performance last night, and I am not hating for the sake of hating. I am just not impressed like Rev thinks I should be. He had a decent game, it wasn't incredible. Taking 21 shots to score 26 is never impressive to me.

Let's be realistic about his shooting % last night, it was vs the Wolves.

Put together a stretch of 5 games above 45%m and then I'll be impressed, seriously.

I've been a Trey critic for 1 1/2 years. However, I LOVE my Jazz. And they'd be a helluva lot better if Trey could develop into a decent starter. Dante still is a long ways off from being an NBA starter. He's not even a great backup right now. I will gladly eat crow if Trey could consistently shoot 45%/38%.
