I don't think you understand what luck is. Winning the lottery is luck. There is no way to prepare or practice to win the lottery. However, professional athletes with length, speed, quickness can do things to make themselves better players. Exum has always been a shut down defender since he came into the league. There was no luck involved on that play.

Gotta be. Last time he got aggressive look what happened. Was it you that said let's see how aggressive he is 40 games into the season?

Dante has so much speed and quickness that he will be a great player even if he never develops a dominant inside offensive mentality. Combine his speed with good decisions, great passing and great defense and he should have a major impact. Add in efficient outside shooting and that's all we really need from him. We have other weapons if he doesn't become a 18PPG player. Not that I don't think he will eventually become more aggressive with his drives.
 
One thing I have been wanting to see in this pre-season is how gobert has improved from the line. So far so good.
Last night he attempted 2 free throws. The first one went down in the hoop and somehow came back out... about as close as you can come to making it without actually making it. The second one was perfect.

He had a very nice move against deandre Jordan where he went up and under the hoop for a great looking and tough finish. He later had a dribble move from the above the free throw line and put a floater off the glass for a bucket. (might have been lucky on that one)

He looks fresh, quick, bouncy, strong, and overall much improved from what we saw last year. Very nice to see.

Edit: Gobert didn't dribble when he got the ball above the free throw line and then made the floater off the glass. After seeing the play again he took two huge steps without dribbling and it didn't look lucky at all. looked like he intentionally banked it in.

And yes, if he got burned badly on that particular play instead then we would probably criticize him (like a few of us did when Austin rivers destroyed him with crossover in the first half).

I don't find this to be the incorrect way to analyze a player. Makes sense to me to praise a player when he does good and criticize when he does bad.

You must have not seen where he And 1'ed CP3 and ran off like a schoolgirl when he heard the whistle and let Paul convert.

I see it how it is, he got very lucky. Lucky enough that we sing praises for him, but not so fast junior! I think his hand came down in a reflex as he fell and just so happened to be at the right place at the right time to strip the ball.

Exum is a conundrum... gets where he wants to but can't finish. I don't know how to solve that... reps are good but it also seems like one of those things that should come fairly naturally. Either way I still like his potential still. Will reserve judgement until he's played 40 games this year.

There are tons of players with certain NBA level skills or abilities that cannot put the entire package together. Jimmer may have one of the best shooting touches on the world's but his lack of other essential abilities limits what he can do in the NBA. Exum may prove to be similar. Great physical gifts without the mind or drive or whatever else to put it all together. I certainly hope he does figure it out but otherwise he'll become another CJ Miles and frustrate the hell out of us all.

My point was simply that its ok to say good things about a play made during a game in a gamethread and its also ok to say bad things about a play made during a game in a gamethread.
I found it strange that you seemed to have a problem with people saying good things about when exum stopped Crawford on that play.

I don't have a problem with that. Skill, hard work and hustle will place some people in more positions, on a more regular basis, to be lucky. Agreed. Luck still happens. All I was saying.

As for this play, I think Dante was unlucky but his skill was able to overcome it. He slipped, unlucky but his hard work led to him making a fantastic hit on the ball for the strip.
