Archie/Beanclown/franklin/Bronco70, do you believe that sexual orientation is a choice and can be changed?

I don't think it's a choice. Attraction comes naturally and not by choice. I also think there are some factors that contribute to homosexuality. I think anything can be changed, but I also think it's highly unlikely and illogical to expect gay people to change their sexual orientation.

Can you refer me to any instances of bullying / beatings / murders that originated out of an individuals love of porn / smoking / drinking? Didn't think so.

My mom caught me looking at porn in Jr. High and she beat me. I'm sure people who look at animal porn get beat up and bullied. My sister-in-law beat my brother up for looking at porn. Many Islamic people who drink get beat/killed/stoned. How many adulterers are murdered each year?

I know, right?

Even though I wasn't addressed in this question, I'll answer it.
I know that I am heterosexual. Always have been. I have NO memories of ever looking at men and being attracted to them. Does that mean I was born hetero? I guess you can say that. I have a gay friend who repeatedly says he has never found women attractive. Does that mean he was born gay? It's the same (opposite) situation as me, so I guess you can say that. Do either of us want to change our sexual orientation? I know I don't, and my friend says he doesn't either. Could either of us change? I honestly don't know, as I've never tried it. My opinion is that if we both enjoy what we're doing, why try to change it? Like the old adage says, "if it aint' broke, don't fix it.

So let's say I adopted 1000 newborn male babies.....moved them to Gayville where no females reside.....offer them exposure to gay porn when their growing up.....educate them around a gay friendly curriculum.....all of their media exposure also being gay friendly.....and then allow them into the rest of the world for their college studies/careers. You guys really believe that only 1-10%(whichever number you think accurately represents the gay community) would still be gay?

Not sure if you're joking or serious... if joking, that's pretty clever. Otherwise, you've beaten me into submission with this discussion.

I think there would be a higher number of gays than normal... but considering that you abuse them (offering your children gay porn) in your hypothetical test, I think your test would be biased and worthless. Not to mention, that you moved them to a male only community... that would be sort of strange too, since I don't know of any modern cities that are male/female only.

Of course, the leadership is going to deny your request.

Bring on the litigation. So you see, there could be a bit of a slippery slope.

Comparable situations:
No US court has ever required the Catholic Church to recognize marriages between one or two divorced people. Back when annullments were hard to come by, this made being Catholic very difficult for many.
No US court has ever required a church who taught segregation to acknowledge inter-racial or inter-faith couples.

Similarly, no US court will require Mormon temples to recognize homosexual marriages. The 1st amendment line is bright and clear. So, the only possibly litigation would be within a Mormon judicial equivalent.

So... if you have a gay couple who is abiding by every other church guideline, why should they be denied these ordinances? Therein lies the paradox. I've always understood (and I am completely open to the possibility that I am way off) that to the church homosexuality was, more or less, a subset of the Law of Chastity (see above).

There are actual European countries with full marriage available to homosexual. If you check, I'm sure you'll find the temples in those coutries do not feel teh Law O Chastity has been upheld by them.

This is a point that I see glossed over on a frequent basis. That blacks are overwhelmingly against gay marriage. I think I've seen polls that show upwards of 75% favor making it illegal. Mormons simply make for a more PC target.

If this were a a board populated by minorities, it probably would. Even then, there is no single organization that is the minority church, comparable to the LDS.

Depends on your definition of gay.
