What's new

Head Coach Jerry Sloan to resign today :(

Too bad, sad it ends this way. I was really impressed with the job he did last year with guys like Matthews and Brewer, and with many similar storied guys before them. Not sure he's done that badly this year with the hand he's been dealt, or if the problems with the team this year come more from the coaching or the management, players aside.

Even though there were tactical things I might have disagreed with , I always respected Sloan in the big picture.

I feel like everyone is making an issue of this being a Sloan problem, but to me it looks like it's an O'Connor problem. Looks like he's done a good job of covering it up so that all the attention's on Sloan. I feel like this is a firing, and that since Larry is no longer around KOC thinks he can flex some muscle. Well, at least he's got his scapegoat.

I seriously doubt that KOC just up and fired Sloan last night. He either did it with Greg-boys okay OR Sloan quit, maybe after words but on his own accord.

Dang. I'm really sad about this news. Jerry was a big part of the Jazz organization and, in turn, my childhood growing up with the Jazz. Weather you liked him or not, he was a great coach and I'm sad to see him go.

Well something happen because from all the comments from Sloan there was zero indication he was not going to continued to coach. It will be wierd not to see Sloan on the bench. Now I think about it this is how Frank Layden left.

And he very well could have done it with his approval. It's been a long time coming, especially after the heat KOC took for doing absolutely nothing after we would get knocked off by LA three years in a row in successively less games, then to top it off let all of our free agents walk, then he was redeemed in the eyes of the fanbase because Chicago bailed his *** out by agreeing to a sign-and-trade. He knew he dodged a bullet and really hasn't done much, if anything, to put us in a competitive spot, saw how bad the team has been and wanted Sloan out before he lost his own job.

Yes, welcome to the Scott Layden era.

1280 (again, this is 1280 hosted by a bunch of ex-college football players), said that they heard that Sloan wanted to call out one of the Jazz's players and there was a heated exchange. Then Sloan said "I can't take this crap anymore" and so now he's resigning. 1280 is making it sound like maybe it is Jerry's initiative and that he wasn't forced out.

Too bad SLC sports has 2 extreme radio stations: One that tows the party line on everything and hasn't said anything yet and on the other end is a station that will spout off any rumor they hear to spark controversy. This is the same station that played songs telling boozer not to let the door hit his *** on the way out in the summer of 2009. So take everything with a grain of salt.

This doesn't look like a firing at all. Sloan just had enough, and decided it was time.
The Jazz WOULD NEVER EVER fire Jerry.

I don't hate Jerry even though I've wanted him gone for the last 2 years. I respect what he has done for us, but his time had come several years back.

We will respect what you have done, retire your jersey, and maybe even put a statue of you next to J & K.
Thanks for the memories, and the time spent. You are a true Jazz man forever.

Sorry, I don't have much to add, but I'm urged to type something.... I mean, while I've been critical of Sloan over the past 20-30 games, I'm absolutely a fan of his to the end. This is just abysmal that the end happens like this.

I'm afraid we'll never know exactly what happened....

This is a rupture that would never have happened with LHM at the helm. The darkness of the Greg Miller era is here. ****, man. ****.

Finally. About 10 years too late, IMO. There is a reason why even the most successful head coaches don't stay with the same team for 25 plus years. Setting all that aside, I like Sloan and would have preferred for this to happen in a slightly different manner and at a slightly different point in the season. But, lets get on with a new era! This team has been painful to watch for the last couple of years.
