I don't want to go into the exact reasons involved here. Suffice to say that it was essentially out of nowhere and that all the reasons involved were both longstanding (the entirety of the relationship) and previously entirely unrevealed to me. About a month ago we were looking at houses together with no mention that anything was imminently coming.

To try to look on the bright side, is your new job a good bump in salary and a good opportunity?

No, in fact I took a substantial prestige downgrade and a $50k/yr decrease in salary. There really isn't a bright side here. I screwed up my career for a woman who turned out to be harboring significant issues for the entire time I had known her and didn't bother to tell me until I had already quit my job and the timing made it so that there was essentially no going back.
 
Kicky, keep your head up, dude. I know this is a hard time, but things will pass and things will work out for you. This crap happened to me in 08 when my fiance broke up with me out of the blue and then I left a job in the Bay making a lot of money to go back to school. I thought my world ended, but in reality it was just a new beginning. Everything has worked out for me and I'm sure the same will work out for you.
