I think it's safe to say that you're the exception to the rule, Log, although I wasn't pointing fingers at anyone in this thread (you or Archie) but was mostly making a generalized statement. I still stand by my original statement though, and agree with SalmonHobo almost 100%. As for not having been in that boat, I guess you're right? I've never been unemployed. I probably have the worst resume on the board, have very few marketable skills, no post-HS education, and am mostly an all-around shmuck. Somehow I can manage to find and keep jobs, so forgive me if I think it's a load of crap that people are spending hours/days/weeks/months really devoted to looking for work. Also, talking out of my *** has paid huge dividends for me, don't knock it.

Like I said, I wasn't pointing at you Mike. I know your situation, and I don't think you're one of the lazy bums that I want to pour boiling urine on. On the contrary, I'm impressed with where you're at at this point of your life/career. Other than the size of your pud, your wife is a lucky girl.

I have to call BS on this. It doesn't matter where your feet are. If you need money to support your family/yourself/lifestyle/whatever, then you have to get out there and get a freaking job. Who gives a crap if it's "unfair" to the employer? I mean seriously. If you need the money, you won't be doing a half-assed job, so you won't be being unfair anyway. If you ARE doing a terrible job, then you'll get fired. Don't bother getting a job if you're going to get fired for being lazy. As for selling yourself short, I'm not really sure WTF you're talking about. I'm not sure how getting off your *** and working is ever selling yourself short, especially if you're working while you're looking to improve your "other" job/situation.

THIS is what I'm talking about. You would go flip burgers, and so would I. You do what you have to do. Freeloading idiots like BeanClown, on the other hand, are above that kind of thing. I am bitching about jackholes like him who refuse to go flip burgers because of their pride and over-inflated sense of self-worth.

Four hours a day sounds more like it -- and if your financial situation were different, you would've still worked a full time job somewhere and put in your four hours of job hunting.

Why would someone worry about taking a job you wouldn't like as being unfair to the employer? So what if you have a job while looking for something better? Worried about how the employer feels? Do you really think they care how you feel when they come to you and tell you that instead of a raise this year they're cutting your salary by 5% or laying you off instead? It's everybody for themselves out there.

Fair question - most probably would not - but I can't think of another reason for someone to exhibit that sort of consideration.
