Las Vegas checking in. Fortunately, our veterinary clinic is an essential business. We started seeing clients "curbside only" on March 18th after Gov. Sisolak issued the stay-at-home directive. (Honestly, I give that dude a ton of credit for making that call. Vegas was set up to be a petri dish, just like NYC. Can't imagine the pressure that guy had on him - shutting down the casinos, etc.) Anyways, we keep our lobby doors locked and have the clients call us when they arrive, and a vet tech goes out to retrieve the animal and get the history from the client. The doctor sees the animal, develops a care plan and estimate for the client, and she calls them (usually they're still parked outside) to discuss everything. Payments are preferably taken over the phone, but the techs also collect when returning the animals to the clients. We are discouraging routine stuff like wellness checks, boarding, and booster vaccines. But, anything medically necessary we are seeing. So far, business hasn't been too bad. Animals still need care, and someone has to do it. We applied for the PPP loan just in case, because we need to keep our staff and associate veterinarian. Any staff who gets sick, we tell them to stay home and we will still pay them. We will come out of this better than most businesses, and I can't deny that I feel a bit guilty about that. Hoping for more "normalcy" after April.

Side note: This town is really frickin' eerie right now. It's not meant to be empty like this. I always wondered what Las Vegas would look like in Stephen King's "The Stand", and now we have some idea lol.

How's this **** for people in small towns? Like are grocery stores half empty if you're living in a more rural setting with less than 20K pop?

Trucks are running as usual or more than usual. They have to limit most items to only 1 or 2 that you can buy. The crappy part is that in the towns closest to me people from the bigger cities were driving here and cleaning the stores out. Kind of crazy. I think it is getting better and you can find most things, but there is no buying in bulk. Although still can't keep tp and lysol in stock.

I ordered some home security equipment and it took about 3 days, arriving yesterday. The original estimate was actually 8 days.

I traded a box of expired masks for 3 rolls of toilet paper.

    We've re-entered a barter economy.

There is a plan for MLB to play their entire season in Phoenix. That could save my financial situation.

We ordered some Quaker Oats on Amazon March 17 since we couldn't find them anywhere. It finally shipped on March 29 with an estimated arrival date of April 2. It arrived March 31. So depending on what your order is, it may take a while.

I noticed the other day my gym is still debiting my account for monthly fees even though they haven't been open in almost a month. Needless to say I'm not surprised, lol.

Mine did too. They offered us a $600 room credit as long as we rebook by the end of the year. We don't have to go, just rebook.

San Bernardino county issued a mandatory facemask order. Must be wearing a facemask to leave the house. Up to $1000 fine and 90 days in jail. Also they are starting to restrict what stores can sell to critical items only and rationing those at that.

So I bought a quantity of masks on eBay. Not N95's, but all the cops in town are wearing the same style, I just can't find any locally to buy. So, what the hey, seller had good feedback...

An hour or so later, I get this message from eBay:

We're writing to let you know that we've removed an item you recently won due to concerns with the seller's account.(Say what?! Lol)

Since you've already paid for the item, you don't need to do anything else.(Thanks, I guess I've done enough) If your item hasn't arrived yet, it should arrive soon.(Really? You mean I can only hope? Lol).

I've picked a winner! Gotta laugh, but I do hope I actually hold my purchase in hand next week. I won't lose my money, but c'mon masks!

I've been exchanging coronavirus humor with a friend in Great Britain. He sent me this...
