What's new

How has the virus affected you directly?

I'm gonna throat punch the next politician who tells me to practice social distancing but won't allow me too.

What do you do on Base? I work contracts on base and I know that contractors have been told to telework or offer paid time off if possible. However, it's no longer the government who is not allowing telework or leave, it's the contractors companies. I have personally put out over 100 letter outlining the process for contractors. I am the only person in my office today. I have sent all others home the last two weeks. My entire office has been offered telework. Some are being offered administrative leave (Leave with pay). Sorry your company hasn't seen fit to offer the leave yet.

My wife got called in today to help clean-up the damage from the earthquake and to get details about the store shutting down for a little bit. She's worried about if she's gonna get paid during the shut down. They have verbally said that they are going to pay everyone, even hourly full and part-time employees and my wife is salary as the store's ops manager. I figure she's gonna get paid during the shut down but we'll find out.

My office has been taking great pains to make sure I'm safe as I'm the most vulnerable one in the office and working from home isn't an option for several reasons. No one comes into my office, and everyone stays far away from me when I venture out to the restroom (with gloved hands). When I left my office once today, one of my coworkers was standing quite close to my door, and I had to walk by him as he didn't move. A few minutes later, it was discovered that he had been ill and had been tested for COVID-19 yesterday but doesn't have the results. And yet he came into the office today and was one foot away from me. He's always been a jerk and thinks he's hilarious and clever for not following protocols of all kinds, but this one is potentially quite harmful. I doubt I'm in real danger as he wasn't coughing and didn't touch me or anything, but still . . .

I'm pretty sick now, since Tuesday night. Wife developed what she swears is a head cold about 6-7 days ago. Horrible sounding cough, but no fever. Sinus congestion. Her cough is better now.

Tuesday night I felt a scratchy feeling in my throat, not unusual for the start of a cold. Woke up Wed. morn with slight temp, and feeling of a respiratory infection in my chest. But no sore throat, and no head cold whatsoever. Woke up this morning with the cough, but not a bad cough at all. Still no shortness of breath at all for either of us.

This eve, got violently ill to stomach, and diarrhea, which are also symptoms of coronavirus, but I'm certain in my case it was because I was stupid and only ate an English muffin all day. Since I'm diabetic, I got violently sick. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Threw sugar pill after sugar pill down my throat, until my stomach finally calmed down.

We need testing, but no shortness of breath and no high fever are good signs. I think? Unless we have a mild version. But still no widespread testing here. So we stay hunkered down, and just monitor ourselves for any of the real serious symptoms.

So my wife's store is closing for at least the next two weeks. Everyone is still getting paid either their salary or based on their average hours over the last 6 weeks. But bonuses and raises will not be paid this quarter.

Pretty fair deal.

I hope we get our bonus
I was told the date we would get it a few weeks ago but now I'm hearing that they don't know when it will be paid out.
I was pretty disappointed in the amount

Yeah! Has there ever not been a corporate portion? I mean are they struggling? Is it really hard to figure out how to pay it out? It used to be the middle check in Feb. for like forever, right? Now we're not sure if we'll get it by the last check in March. I mean I get that it's a bonus but they sure do know how to take what should be a morale builder and turn it into a morale killer. DAF.

The corporate portion thing pissed me off. I have never seen that before.
And I thought the Trump tax cuts for corporations and rich people was supposed to trickle down. Lol

As it stands I won't be able to make it to my grandma's 99th birthday celebration... we all told her that it's a risk to still go ahead with it and that it should be moved back at a later date.

Not sure how many people will still be turning up. Old people are so stubborn... smh...

This means we’d get $7,000. I’d of course love that but it should not happen. My wife and I haven’t lost our jobs. Yet anyway. I have some concern about my wife’s.
I get where you're coming from, but we need something like this in the hands of those who need it quick if we want to stave off a deep recession.

Tax it out away from those who don't need it next year or something, but means testing it now just adds complexity and time we don't have.
