What's new

How much better will we be than last year?

The only thing that will hold us back other than injuries is the pressure (expectation).

Before we were taking people by surprise, and everything we did was unexpected.
Now, it's expected for us to be a top team in the West, and yes we should be.

If they team is able to avoid letting the pressure get to them then we should have a true the skies the limit scenario. Aka flirting with Houston and GS as a top team in the West.

For me the natural progression would be to end up #3 in the West challenging Houston for the 2nd seed all year, and a highly competitive playoff series with them possibly winning. It would be nice if the teams ahead of us had the injury bug this year, and we have a shot at leap frogging. I just want this.: To be relatively healthy all year, and see how good this core is. If we end up 4th, and only make it to the second round fine, we'll know we aren't good enough to compete with the big boys (but we all believe we are). Just no major injuries, and lets see how far we can take it. Of course I want the road to be a magical one, and everything to work out in our favor. Exum explodes, Allen has a good rookie year, Donovan takes another leap, Ricky plays the whole year like 2nd half '18 Ricky, Gobert takes it to another level, etc etc. I want a title. Just once. Maybe it doesn't happen this year, but I want progression that we are headed that way...

EXCITING times in Jazzland!

Utah culture is so prone to intoxication with hope. We get a good team, we lose our good sense.

I think it all comes down to finally beating this addiction and just keeping up good team dynamics. I think this is the first time I've agreed with Rev.

But we are a better team now.

So many factors at play. The West got better overall and we obviously play the majority of games against Western Conference teams. So our schedule is likely harder. We lost a ton of games to injury, but we seem to do that every year. Seems to be the norm for Rubio, Exum, Burks, Favors and Gobert to miss a chunk of games. I hope they can stay relatively healthy.

It will also be interesting to see the evolution of Quin's offense. I still see some issues with it, but adding tweaks may make a big difference. They need to speed up a bit imo.

Always hard to determine wins based on health of our squad as well as the rest of the league and overall SOS. I am going to guess 53 wins. I just want to see a full strength playoff roster with HCA in at least one round.

Excited to see what this season brings.

I think the Jazz make the leap to “mainstream” this season. Countless highlight videos on youtube where I’ve read comments like “my new favorite team”.

That’s the one drawback of being as awesome as this jazz team is.
Bamdwagoners. Oh well

Yeah I'm pretty sure Burks is gone. We'll probably do him somewhat of a favor if he's not playing at that point.
Burks has done right by the organization, and we'll probably give him a chance to play somewhere else if we are healthy and he doesnt play.

I agree Burks is gonna be gone, either at the trade deadline or after the season. Which is why I hope Grayson Allen will be ahead of him in the rotation the entire season. Why waste time playing someone who isn't in the teams future plans when we could use those minutes to start developing Allen.

I think Burks should get some decent playing time through November especially in games that are already decided in the 4th quarter. If he can create a decent stat line going into December, I think he's a solid trade piece. Many GM's will remember how well he played in the postseason even with limited minutes. I don't think we can get a big haul for Burks without taking back a bad contract, but I think we could make him an asset.

While Burks is playing, Grayson should be improving. He should be poised for more playing time as we get into 2019.

Just ate McDonald's so...

61 wins
Number 2 seed
Win first round 3-1 v Lakers
Win semifinals 4-2 v OKC
Lose conference finals 4-2 v Warriors (down 3-1 at one point tho)
Warriors go on to sweep the Celtics
Donovan Mitchell garners votes in MVP
Rudy repeats as DPOY
Quin Snyder wins COY

I see possible storm clouds with 14 guys deserving minutes (everyone but Bradley) and just not enough playing time to go around.
Could see Crowder as an odd-man out if he's just all effort and no shooting again. Burks is likely a cheerleader. And if Udoh plays meaningful mins, Jazz are in trouble, as that means Gobert or Favors are hurt. Just too many players at the 1-3. Not sure how Lindsey pulls it off, but Jazz sure could trade depth for quality at 1 position.

I predict Thabo is going to play a key role. Allen will get more minutes than we expect. And Exum will slot nicely in as Rubio's back up, reducing Neto to garbage time minutes.
