Hyper Risky Move (HRM)

full tanking is a high risk move. you are going to upset lauri, sexton and kessler and just hope lady luck favor you and you get a high pick and that pick turns out great. then you hope you are forgiven by the vets who lost a full year why you tanked.
Well that's part of the reason they gave Lauri a massive raise and long-term max deal. Same with Clarkson on his raise and extension he got last year.

So you want to trade for Ingram, have the team be terrible, have Ingram "pout", and then bring him back?

Makes no sense. You dont trade for a guy playing for next contract if you want to tank.

An Ingram trade made some sense if you wanted to zag and compete with other teams tanking.
That's why it is risky.. lots of potential points of failure

What's the best case scenario exactly?

It's nearly a no-upside trade. Why are the Jazz giving up 6 years of contract control on Walker to win more games and potentially lose Ingram in UFA? I really dont think the Jazz are that desperate to get of Collins. It's not like the Jazz have demonstrated any ability to use their cap-space outside of giving their own players raises.

To me, the only way the Jazz get Ingram is if he goes down with a season ender and NOLA is desperate to the point they do Collins for Ingram straight up (plus filler like Svi or Mills).

I think the team is worse with Ingram even though his talent is greater than Kessler's. It would help us not win and secure a lottery position. We then cash out Ingram for 3 FRP at trade deadline. In my mind, we generate an extra FRP value compared against Kessler who's worth 2 FRP and we better secure a valuable 2025 position. I think Kessler risks that. It is a lot of goobly gook speculation and risky but that is why I call it such

It would absolutely help the Jazz win games.

Related to this thread. Here are the largest expiring contracts in the NBA according to basketball reference https://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/players.html:
- Ben Simmons
- Brandon Ingram
- Jamal Murray
- Bruce Brown
- Brook Lopez
- Malcolm Brogdon
- Clint Capela
- Lonzo Ball
- Myles Turner
- Bogey
- DLo
- Lavert

Does BKN control their pick next year as well? I thought they only got this year's draft pick back, so they might be interested in making a trade for someone who could help them next year? That's probably Sexton realistically, but maybe they like Clarkson as well?

Sexton and Clarkson for Simmons? Yucky, yuck yuck.

One window for things to happen is Rookie Extension time. I was thinking about making a separate thread on this, but if extensions don't get done (or begrudingly get done) it puts the player at a much higher chance at being moved. Here are the guys I somewhat have an eye on:

Jalen Green
Alperen Sengun
Jon Kuminga
Moses Moody

Earlier in the off season McMahon had mentioned that he doesn't expect both Green and Sengun to be a part of the Rocket's future. The Lauri-GSW obviously didn't get done, but the salary crunch presented by Moody+Kuminga remains.

In understand that Sengun is not everyone's ideal type of C, but he might be the ideal C for what Hardy wants on offense. There have been a lot of whispers about him....He'd cost a lot, but I do think he's one hell of a player. Just turned 22 years old this summer.
