What's new

I have seen the future...

Two games against two very bad teams and Exum already has 4 of 11 shooting in 27 minutes, 4 assists, 4 TOs and -12 while on the floor. Yeah... he is conquering the league. Now I see it! I even think he should be a favorite to win Most Improved Player.

So his new contract won't break the bank?

When Dante first entered the game and Sac went on a hot streak from 3 I thought some asshat would use +/- against Dante.

yeah. Dante really didn't have a ton to do with the +-. He did have couple TO's in the first half but generally the Kings were just hitting shots on other guys. He didn't have great game today, but like Quin said we need to judge him on other things than stats for a while. His stint at the end of the game was crucial. He locked down a couple drives and had some good offensive plays including an assist. I was glad he was able to get in there and contribute. Definitely looks rusty overall, and not quite in the flow of the offense at times. Completely understandable. He just needs to keep getting minutes.

Yeah agreed.
My only real worry (but it is too early), is that he is so weak around the rim - plus he has poor feel. I think he should be trying to get to the line more and look to get fouled trying to dunk.. I mean is this a good strategy when you lack finesse..

You realize this post can be held against you?

I have the same concern. He keeps getting better at fancy floaters, I wish he'd attack. That being said, he tied his career high for free throws in 14 minutes. He'll come close to setting a career high in free throws shot this year (because he's been so bad his entire career.)

Hayward didn't start dunking on guys til his 3rd or 4th year, maybe Exum will figure it out. Does he have much of a vertical? He's so explosive off the dribble, if he could couple that with some explosive dunks, we'd have Westbrook-lite!

He’d be better at the rim with good coaching, and imo, losing weight. I can’t emphasize this enough. Dude does not need to be this big to be in the NBA. He’d be such a better and quicker and bouncier player if he shed about 12 pounds. He’d still be jacked as **** and one of the biggest badasses in the league.

I see a solid first step for a guy that big and an actual ability to get by guys. I just don’t see much lift or fluidity once he goes to take off. Losing weight could help that a lot. He does need to work on his actual finishing ability too though.

Think he needs to work on balance and body control while in the air, some of his landings are terrible

I wonder if he has been conscious to put on weight due to his overall fragility....
I just wish he learnt to draw contact, instead of having to contort himself into awkward shots.

I’m not sure. I think much of attacking a rim is habit. In other words, a player finishes in a way he has always finished, almost his entire life. Not many guys finish with both hands. And how often does a player like Jae actually attempt to attacking and finish at the rim in a game? Once or twice? So he just attempts to finish the way he usually does, which isn’t very often.

I think good coaching and reps (after practice) could help a ton. It’s basic muscle memory. Right now, there isn’t much of that to go off of because it’s just never really been a part of his game. He doesn’t attempt this much. But to me, it seems like with his first step and ability to get by guys, it definitely could be.
