I don’t get the dutch or babe hate.

dutch is like an Amsterdam-based Borat. Just dumber. I find him fun in a silly way, sort of like some drunk uncle who likes to have a good time, is good for some chuckles but ends up saying stupid *** **** he swears by. He doesn’t mean any harm. He just is who he is.

babe is just straight out shtick. I remember when my dad was working for the Forest Fire Service in the Lebanon State Forest in the late 70’s. This was before it became the Brandan Byrne State Forest and the politicians got their claws into it. Dad was almost a decade removed from one sweaty tour but he still had a tough time dealing with it. Alcohol. Sleeping on the floor sometimes. Jumpy around fireworks. One time he had a coworker over the cabin he had built before the war. Just 20 years old when he’d done it but handy as hell. Anyway, that guy came over. Don’t think he shut his yap for more than the five seconds it took him to knock off half a beer. Talked about his exploits in Saigon when he served. Flying Hobos there. His escape from some POW camp. My dad usually walked away when the guy’d start in on that. But some of his stories were captivating. He was there right when the war first started. And I was just up to my mamas hips then and my dad wasn’t much of a talker himself, and almost never spoke of the war. So when Clarence Busch started in, I’d sidle over and lean in slack-jawed. I always thought it must’ve been like my great grandpop after the Great War, listening to the Fireside Chats. But Clarence moved a year or two later out to California. Think he got in trouble with drunk driving my pops said. When that Nic Cage movie by the Coens came out years after, my dad would always say that M. Emmet Walsh character in the film was Clarence.

But that’s babe. He just tells stories. Not because he cares to share in some meaningful way but rather because he has a shtick and role to play and too many here, take the bait. So more stories keep coming. If you went back and reread each one though, I’m sure there’s inconsistencies, thus making much of what he says completely irrelevant. At least to me.

Both of them simply post meaningless drivel.

You say you don’t get it yet I never see you get into discussions with either of them so you kind of do get it I think.

There's nothing worthwhile to get into. I don't get people who get worked up over what are obvious trolls. It's no different than CarmelloJazzKiller. All three are different species of troll but troll nonetheless.

“There’s nothing worthwhile to get into”. Reading between the lines that tells me right there that you basically ignore their posts as well. I’m glad you do. Keep up the good work.

And yes, I typically read one or two sentences of babe’s garbage (curiosity killed the cat) and then stop. So for the most part I do ignore him. I read Dutch’s more often than not just to see what higher level **** he’s bringing to the table so I don’t ignore him.

But to me, there’s a difference between ignoring posts the way I do with babe, and putting someone on ignore because they get under your skin too often, the way one or two people here do for me, and the way I think JTT did/does for you at times. And I guess that’s what I was getting at. babe and Dutch are harmless to me. Others on the other hand nastily incite and bring the worst out of some of us.

Yeah, to be clear, I only have Dutch and carolinajazz on ignore, and it's 100% using fish's rationale, not because they're malicious or something, although Dutch has had his moments in the past. At this point, they're both nothing more than clutter to me, and I'm just using the ignore function to filter their ****. I can handle babe's schtick (good description) for a line or two-- and he sometimes does have a perspective on political stuff that I wouldn't consider otherwise-- and then bail on the rest of his 1,500-word essay/smartest-guy-in-the-room routine.

I have ignored some people on Facebook, though. It’s when it gets to a point that it fills up my feed and makes me resent them, like a kid from my mission who (among other things) got engaged and the wedding was like 4 months out and he posted a daily update of how many days left until he got married. Haven’t seen anything of his in like 8 years. Another is a girl who did nothing but continue to post wedding pictures every day a few years after the fact. And some various other reasons.

I have a few facebook people who post sappy inspirational crap, usually in spurts every couple days when they post like 8-12 stupid things in a row.
