There are many things to like about him and I am not that surprised by his performance because I saw him in summer league and he just has an understanding about the game. I was really impressed with the way he handled having to guard a guy who out weighed him by more than 100lbs. First of all he battle with the guy. Evans is pretty strong even though he is a stick. After he was backed down a couple times, Evans made the adjustment to use his speed and jump the pass. He ended up getting a couple of steals.

I hope the Jazz are smart enough to give this guy a Millsap rookie contract because I really believe the Jazz have found another diamond in the rough. It wouldn't hurt Evans to put a little weight on but I think he needs to concentrate on developing a jumpshot because I think his really position is SF. Playing SF he wouldn't have to gain as much weight. Anyways, I am excited about the kid and think he can be a good bench player and a player that is fun to watch.

But some of you comparing him to Shawn Kemp or Dwight Howard must be looking at a completely different player. Maybe you guys got confused between Evans and Al Jefferson? They're both black...

It's correctable.

However, our lack of a proven outside shooter is IMO our #1 concern. No Korver, no Matthews, and no Okur. So we depend on??????????....... CatchNJack (who looks like he did in the reg. season not playoffs), AK, Hayward (rookie), and Jeffers? Uh oh...

The frontline is better than we've had in years. PG situation isn't perfect, but can't be any worse than those years we had Knight or that sucky player we traded to the Clippers. We're the most athletic and deepest we've been in years.

But outside shooting? Yikes....

NBA teams are going to pack it in and dare AK, CJ, Hayward, Raja, etc to keep them honest. Lets just hope they can....

Last year Millsap showed off a pretty good mid-range game. If teams start doubling down on Al, he can throw it back to Paul. Jefferson has already shown he's a better and much more willing passer than we had thought. I think Al KNOWS that he's going to get easy looks - no reason to be selfish with the ball. But I do agree we need the wings to be more consistent. Hayward is going through some rookie pains. No reason to think he won't be an adequate shooter once he stops thinking so much about where to be on offense. I think Raja will be fine. He's been a good shooter throughout his career. CJ is always a mystery. We know the skills are there. But for whatever reason, he just hasn't been able to do it consistently come game time.

Once Memo comes back, I want to see him at PF with Jefferson. There's outside shooting right there. Obviously, some matchups will be bad for him, but it's another option to have. And I'm pleased with Fes' game. I think we just move Memo to backup PF full-time and give Fes the minutes behind Jefferson. Coming back from his injury, Okur shouldn't be playing more than 15 mins/per anyway.

I was coming to say the same thing and even said so on the draft threads about him, along with Hakim Warrick and since I think the Jazz envisioned him more as an undersized (in weight) PF when they drafted him Tyrus Thomas is also an pretty good example. I think the Jazz are thinking he can replace some of what Milsap brought off the bench in a year or so, their body types aren't similar but both are undersized PF's for different reasons but bring relentless energy and hustle if he keeps that and adds any offense and a little weight I'll be as happy as Kicky looking at Fess porn.
If he pans out like many are dreaming in this thread he would be a rich mans any of those 3 players listed and they would become a poor mans Evans.

Jazz probably think a good PG + inside man + a bunch of good role players is enough to take them to the second round and with some luck the WCF. You cant blame them for that. Screw the third option who can playmake and create his own shot. We can worry about that when we actually decide to contend for a championship.

You're right. That's like the Spurs without Manu Ginobli or the Lakers without Lamar Odom. That third player is what puts defenses on their heels. I still think Millsap could be come versatile enough to really come into play. He's talented and hard-working enough. It's just too easy to take the Jazz out of their offense if they run the same few set plays and focus only on spacing. The Lakers shut us down every time.

Okur + Jefferson probably would be the most effective frontcourt lineup against the Lakers.
