What's new

Iman Shumpert?

Wouldn't it be cheaper to get him now? We're building a good defensive team, he would fit right in. Players like Shumpert are hard to find, we're better off getting him now then finding a guy like him later.

Well, it comes down to odds. Personally I think most people know what they'll be getting with Iman. I can't see him taking any sort of extraordinary leaps in terms of expanding his game, and repertoire.

Burks, on the other hand, is a huge unknown. He could be Morris Almond-- or he could be Harden-lite-lite.

I think just based off of the risk/reward factor. We're better off hanging onto Burks-- and we can throw a good offer at Iman in a couple years when his contract ends, and when we actually need to solidify our wing-defense. Yes, Iman's value won't ever be much lower-- but I also think that it won't get too much higher either. Burks, on the other hand, could definitely raise his stock.

I think the FO wants to give Burks a chance this season. We can then swap him at the end of this/sometime next season if things aint working. Very moveable contract.

Point being: it would be a big mistake to trade Burks without the season even starting, unless we really get a ridiculous trade offer.

check out this video... (footage starts at 0:18)

D Rose shot 8/26 this game

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TabIJ4udPwY

why is everyone talking about his offense, or #'s, the game isnt played on paper, this kid makes an impact, and steps up in crunch time

im not saying that we should offer burks, i would though, if the knicks would accept, which i dont see why they would

many 3 way trades would work though...

Hayward not signing an extension probably crushes this whole idea, and makes Burks contract more valuable to the jazz than any other team probably, as hed i guess be the insurance if Hayward were to only accept a QO next season, then leave to play for his old coach Brad Stevens

Footage starts at 1:00... not only does he seamlessly switch to a PF, but hes not looking around for help, he sizes him up and steals his dribble

i really would like to challenge the notion that Shumpert might be less explosive because of the knee.

Shumpert would have tied for 2nd in this years draft combine at 42" with Victor Oladipo and Ben McLemore, only surpassed by Shane Larkins 44" jump

Alec Burks 36" vertical would have been the 27th highest jump.

also at the times of their respective combine jumps burks was 193lbs and shumpert was 222, there was an even bigger discrepancy between their standing vertical..

point being hes was more explosive with about 30 more pounds, on almost identical frames, and much more important than that to me is whats on tape

Alec Burks mostly dunks in the open court or around defenders, Shumpert dunks over defenders, including centers, he dunks with alot more authority...

this dunk is from this years playoffs, his knee is fine

Anyone who shoots a lower % from the floor than they do the 3pt line just worries me.

If Shumpert is such a terror in transition, and a pretty good 3pt shooter, then why is his FG% so poor? It tells me that he is just a player who camps the 3pt line, but if you chase him off it, he probably can't do much else in terms of creating anything for himself or teammates.

I would definitely take him if we could get him. But I just see more potential in Burks. To me, Shumpert doesn't have much offensive potential other than his 3pt shot. It's pretty encouraging that he has gotten to be such a good 3pt shooter, but I just don't see any natural offensive feel from him.

You partly blame that on NYC's ISO heavy offense that allows Smith and Melo to dominate, but that is also the same offense that is giving him wide open 3pt looks. If you put him in a position that calls on him to create more, then his %'s may drop across the board.

It would have been interesting to see him in Jerry Sloan's offense, in the same role as Brewer, but I'm not even sure he has the IQ or feel that is necessary to be a slasher that could finish on the level of a Ronnie Brewer. If you recall, Brewer was actually a good offensive player in college and played PG (and was good at it). Shumpert has always been a ****ty offensive player and guard, even at the college level.

zulu in 3 years when Burks is better than Shump, will he still be 195lbs?

Burks was about to dunk through that guy, so I don't see how this was an example of him being weak. He got blocked by Larry Sanders, who is the best shot blocker in the league.

Burks was about to dunk through that guy

which is why he got blocked... LOL, Shaq could dunk through defenders, burks is 6'6" and 200lbs soaking wet, wearing boots

in the NBA you have to dunk over defenders, or around them, Challenging Larry Sanders head on is not a high BBIQ play... (id suspect he didnt see him though, which worries me more than if he was trying to posterize him)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WG9lhGt1Y8 Favors is bigger than Sanders and Waiters is atleast 2"s shorter than Burks, this is how you dunk on premier defenders

EDIT: whos he dunking over here? vid says Thomas? is it Tristan Thompson ??

reminds me.....

the thunder used to cause CP3 major issues putting Thabo Sefolosha on him...

Bulls used to put Pippen on Stockton. His lenghth gave Stock major problems, plus at that stage of Stock's career, he did not have the quickness to blow by Pippen.

Stop cherry picking. You could probably count Shumpert's dunks like that last year on one hand. Any legit center identifies him as a threat early on and sends him packing at the rim if he tries that. Obviously, Thomas is not a legit center he blocked less than a shot a game as a starter.

% blocked at rim:
Shumpert: 17%
Burks: 14%

Might want to check the chamber you are probably out of bullets.

do you longtime jazzfans think that the Jazz FO would avoid this type of player because of attitude ?

also with the injury to JR Smith, id imagine the Knicks would demand a SG in return.

I don't think Shump has an attitude problem. This whole 'jazz don't go after players that like to party/have public lives/say/do controversial things' is kind of an exaggeration. If someone is talented and can help this team, I don't see why the Jazz don't go after them. They attempted to get Shaq after all.
