Interesting trade idea from Locke

So I'm a bit confused as to what you're saying here.

he said:

This is the reason the Jazz have never and are unlikely to ever win a title. You don't build the base of a championship through FA's. You do it through the draft with high draft picks.

it turns out neither the Lakers or Celtics used a single high draft pick (higher than tenth) on any of the players on their teams.

I would be ecstatic with this trade, but I'm not holding my breath.

other teams will be targeting that Philly pick. for example, Minnesota could swap picks with Philly and take on Brand and not return any player in the deal, since they are far under the salary cap. or they could include a useless and redundant player like Gomes in the deal.

AK and #9 For Brand and #2

This is a rummer I heard from Chad Ford that the Sixers are willing to trade the #2 pick if someone is willing to take Elton Brands Contract. Would you consider trading AK and his expiring and our #9 pick for Brand and the #2 pick?

Upside: Brand would be back in a heavy PF reliant offense instead of the run and gun Philly runs. And could come back to being a top PF if given the opportunity. Plus he would fill the void left by Boozer. We would also get Evan Turner.

Downside: Brand may never recover back to form and he has 4 years left on his horrible contract.

I would consider this because Turner could turn out to be as good a Brandon Roy. If that happens then the trade would be worth in IMO.

If the Jazz do that they are setting themselves up for disaster. If there is 4 years left on Brand's contract, then the 'star rookie' they will draft would want a close to max deal in 3 years. That means, if the Jazz just pay for Deron, Brand, and 'rookie', then they would be paying 45-50m in just 3 players. The Jazz would be in the same situation they are in with Boozer and AK. I don't see the Jazz jumping at taking on Brand's contract unless they are positive that Brand would get back to form.

I believe there's only three years left on Brand's albatross. I say **** it and roll the dice. If we're honest with ourselves, we're not winning it all organically anyway without some major move like this. So **** it. Pull the trigger. It's not my money. Ya know. But S&T Booze first.

KOC's favorite trading partner is Philly. Even if Brand isn't 100%, he'd only have to play 15 mins/per behind Millsap worst case. And Utah gets a guaranteed all-star in Turner. Turner/Matthews/CJ at the 2/3. I like that.

Eliminate Boozer's contract and Korver's. The trade takes care of AK' salary. That's a combined $33M in savings. What is Brand making, $15M?. And add whatever it takes to re-sign Matthews and Fes. Sign D-Leaguers like Gaines and Jeffers to get to the 13-man limit. That should be enough to take on Brand's salary.

I'd definitely do this, but I doubt Greggy Boy would go for it. It's too risky.

And Philly is probably looking for immediate savings so they can bid on Lebron, Amare, etc. I doubt they'd make the deal. But who knows? I'd put it out there in case they don't get offered anything better.
