Is Quin blowing it with Dante?

There is the whole 2nd round dynamic in relation to Hayward's resigning.

Then there is the experience being gained by Gobert, Hayward, Favors, Hood and Ingles. To me their experience takes an immediate priority over Exum's. Exum has tons more time than the rest of them.

I think yesterday Quin put Mack in thinking we might need more scoring, but it looked like Dante was just warming up and ready to be aggressive.

It's important for Dante's development to end the season on a high note. How much should that factor, if at all?
In the playoffs, it should be no factor whatsoever. If you want minutes in the playoffs be the best guy at your position on the team, or close to it. I'm a huge fan of Dante, I think he has a ton of potential, I think he's better than Mack in almost every way. But his development is a non factor for minutes in the playoffs. I honestly don't think Mack, Neto and Exum combined should play more than 5-8 minutes in the playoffs.

I would have liked to have seen him play a bit prior to last night, but I thought the minutes distribution last night was perfect and he did a solid job. I'd like to see him get 7-10 minutes a game from here on out, if possible. Playoff experience will good for him. Plus, the less Shelvin the better, IMO.
That I can agree with. I swear at the TV every time I see Mack enter the game. It's been like that for 3 months.

If Exum goes home for the offseason it will piss me off. Dude has work to do. Hopefully he is ready for big minutes in the playoffs next year.

It's not straight stats to me. I know Mack will eff up too, but Dante throws a pass or two that end up going the other way for layups. He does it with enough frequency that he can't be the pg or primary ball handler. If he plays good defense and is off ball on offense then sure, but I think if you need a pg... go with Mack or Neto.

I think he does it about the same amount as Mack. But Exum plays defense I am not sure what to call what Mack does on that end of the court. Exum and Mack bring different things to the table offensively but I think their value on that end is roughly the same or in favor of Exum. Exum>>>Mack on defense, which is where we have been hurting. I strongly prefer Exum at PG than SG and think he is much better at that position. I think the stats back up what I see on the court as well that Exum is a better PG than Mack overall. He is slightly less consistent than Mack but has the chance to actually influence the game much more positive than Mack can.

Yeah that's probably true. C'mon, I'm reaching here. Help me out.

are you reaching? Or trolling? Both?

Exum is right where he belongs right now. You need focus to shut down the Clippers' guards. Other than CP3, they haven't done much. Yall should be thrilled at the way we've defended the perimeter this series. Other than Crawford's game 4... but if you want Dante on Jamal, then you should turn in your fancard.

Also you all have me to thank for Exum getting minutes last game and making that three. I wore his Jersey to the game. I also spilled beer on a kid below me and swapped him free shirts when Exum hit that three.

Honestly I want all of them to stay (within reason, there will be vacations and such). Favors needs rest and cardio excersizes all summer lol

How did you feel he did guarding Crawford last game when Crawford was very hot?

Dante needs to keep being tested, he might have that breakout game and it's off to the races. I don't see him being enough of a risk to warrant playing Mack over him.

Mack seems to get stripped a lot, but those TO's don't seem to lead to run outs as much. When Exum turns the ball over it almost always leads to a dunk on the other end. But I'd still prefer Exum to Mack, I just think he's better than Mack.

let's get out of the first round of the playoffs for the first time this decade before we start betting on the long odds, eh?

Minutes - especially playoff minutes - have to be earned. Exum has shown some good things this year as he returned from injury. . . but there's still a lot of room for improvement. There have been a number of games where his inexperience and poor shooting has hurt the team. If he plays. . . great. It means that Quin trusts him not to **** everything up.

Generally I agree but I feel that the Jazz think that the second round is an immediate goal and Exum does not help with that. They can take the long view with him.

Now next season I would look for his role to increase. If he is in this same scenario because there has been no improvement next season then I would start to worry that he is a bust. He should show signs of improvement and as a result an increasing role on the team.

Yes, he needs work but this series is not the time.

He probably would not have played if Hayward wasn't sick.

Probably true, but he did well enough that it might convince QS to play him at times instead of Mack. Dante is a much longer, better defender than Mack and it's not like Shelvin is tearing it up offensively so it's not much of a loss there.

Look at Kobe vs. Jazz during the 1997 playoffs. Granted, much different situation/player but I bet it made Kobe a better player to fail a bit like that. The occasional good play makes up for it development-wise. Impact on the game is a slightly different matter, of course...

This is a great point. Watching those playoffs, I would have never guessed Kobe would become as good as he did. It was brick city that series. It was a thing of beauty as a Jazz fan.

LOL @ the Kobe comparisons. Kobe was younger than Exum when he made his first all star appearance.

Has Exum not failed enough to be motivated in the off-season?
