What's new

Is the lockout going to end soon?

I think the biggest problem NBA players are going to face: is that if they don't seem to fight for their league like the NFL players did than they risk falling down to NHL levels of fandom.
What?

1. NHL teams draw more fans than NBA teams.

2. Despite poor TV deals, NHL revenues continue to grow, and NHL players make more as a percentage of revenue than NBA owners are insisting their players make as a result of the current labor negotiations.

3. If the NBA season is cancelled, the NHL will gladly swoop in and take all that TV revenue. The NHL is currently a healthier league than the NBA, and will likely supplant the NBA as the #3 pro sports league if the NBA season is cancelled.

4. meh.

Biggest problem is the economics of the NBA are way out of whack. Huge concessions needed for the league as currently constructed to stay viable.
Does not compute. The other American pro sports league, including the NHL and their horrid TV deals, are able to stay perfectly viable. Yes, concessions have to be made, but nothing even close to what the owners are demanding. The NBA is run as poorly as Isiah Thomas's CBA. Laughably bad.

Fandom isn't synonymous for attendance. The NBA makes more money than the NHL. There's a reason for that.

While the NBA might have a much bigger market and much more revenue that doesn't mean they are structured anything like the NHL. I've seen a ton more NBA promotions, merchandise, ads, etc., than I have for the NHL. It seems like you're not taking overhead into account.
