Is the solution to a forum that allows racists to post to just ignore the racists? Really?

No, bulletproof made it very clear that he didn't care to wait to find out what Jason decided to do about dutch. Made no sense to me, and I didn't care for his melodrama either.

I think you have to be careful. Suppressing opposing views is a tough call. Dutch was over the top in many respects but it wasn't like he was constantly posting things like "**** all the n-words" and stuff like that. So where is the line drawn? Tough call. One way would be to simply make a blanket rule like "no political posts of any kind" or "no discussions of anything related to protected classes, like race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, etc.". I think if you want a robust and vibrant forum you will end up with some stuff like that from Dutch, which really was mostly borderline and hyperbolic, and then moderate as you can. Or you can always eliminate general discussion and stick exclusively to sports talk. Tough call.

Also, go back and read Dutch's final post and tell me what is racist about it? I just dida and honestly, what I read was him calling out what he saw as hypocrisy regarding reactions to the recent black face stuff, not that black face should be allowed or is fine. How was it racist? Seriously someone explain it to me, as I'm sure there is something I am missing.

Honestly, since I had Dutch on ignore it was much nicer experience here. Same after I put Jazz and his multiple Exum fan boy club alts on ignore as well. Ignore works. Just use, it folks.

Giving such a topic any type of attention gives it power. I never saw race. Wasn't ever a deal while I grew up, other than history class. Hard for me to relate to the ignorant people simply because I could have easily been born somewhere else, with different opportunities and paths.

It wasn’t that post in my mind. It was a lifetime achievement honestly. That post that had GF all bent out of shape with blackface was a bit trolling but add that to the history and ... well GF/BP got his way. I must be dense but I didn’t see the outrageousness in Dutch’s final post like some did. It was literally just a straw on the proverbial camel.

And thank you for admitting, honestly, that moderating is hard lol

And finally to Harambe, I don’t know if this is a change in practice. Probably not. We have been fine for 20 years with the current approach IMO. Two permabans that stick is a good ratio. Maybe, again, I’m dense.

Eh, it's a Utah jazz forum. If you act like a stupid douche all the time and everybody hates you and are annoyed by you then you should be banned.

You don't have to be careful about suppressing opposing views on a freaking Utah jazz forum.

Acknowledging that I've been a dick to the staff in the past, I also appreciate your apprehension to dramatically change in any "broad strokes" way. Thank you for answering honestly. In your shoes, I am pretty certain I'd have more than two permabans in 20 years, and perhaps you're on the right path.
