What's new

Jazz acquire NAW and Juancho Hernangomez for Ingles, Hughes, and two 2nd round picks.

NAW 0-6 tonight… he’s been fine but we just really need to remember that he isn’t a shoot the lights out guy. He gets hot but mostly a bad shooter. He’s eliminated some of the ******** in his current role which is good.
He really seems to only be able to shoot when he is truly spotting up and has a few seconds to get his feet set. Any motion at all, a simple single dribble, or a slight step to the side, or catching on the move, or a slight breeze pushing him minutely off-balance, is enough to send his shot careering wildly against the rim at some weird angle. I haven't seen many shooters miss so utterly randomly as he seems to. One shot off the back of the rim, one between the rim and backboard, one off the left side of the rim, one barely glances off the right front of the rim, an air ball. one nearly hits the side of the backboard. The dude is just all over the place. But we have seen if he can just sit there, have his feet set, and catch and shoot it without any other movement he can hit the shot. But wow, I think he is the most inconsistent "shooter" I have seen. The shooting coaches have their work cut out for them.

You have seen Russell Westbrook shoot, haven't you?

Count me in as a fan of Juan.
He is easily the biggest and best surprise in all this. I did not expect that kind of energy or especially skill on defense. He can hit the open 3 if he is set, and he seems more consistent at it than NAW, missing usually long or short like someone who can actually shoot the ball. Good shooters tend to miss on distance, not direction. NAW misses all over the place, but Juancho tends to miss long or short. He will be a good asset in the playoffs if he can just give us 10 minutes of energy and pesky D. I like the lineup with Butler, NAW, Paschall, Juancho, and Whiteside. Yeah odds are we won't see that in the playoffs but they have a different energy to the starters sometimes. At least worth some burn in the regular season. Make us surprisingly deep as a team.

I wasn't counting clowns. Lots of clowns with worse shots.

Plus I did identify the label of a "shooter", which fits NAW, but has never fit Westbrook in his life. No one would call him a shooter, and they never have. But NAW should be a shooter really.

I've got to say, I am enjoying that this is how Russel Westbrooks career is coming to an end. I don't really know how many more years he has, but I think this is going to be his legacy.
The greatest stat stuffer of all time. An empty shell, but a supreme stat stuffer nonetheless.

Yeah my hate for him originated when he was chasing triple-doubles and in all the games I watched he had teammates batting rebounds to him, differing to him on fast breaks so he could get the points or the assists and just hurting the team in general so he could get his. It's the kind of thing that would never have happened on the Jazz under Sloan or under Quin.

We gave up Joe for these clowns
This. If joe were here right now he would be putting up much better numbers than either of these clowns.

My hate for him is mostly due to the fact that he is always pissed off. Smile once in a while dude. You are making millions playing a game that millions of others love to play for free. Life is good. Probably the angriest basketball player I have ever seen.

NAW is good from the corners traditionally... like you said he needs the ball in his pocket feet set. If he can continue to just shoot open corner threes at 38%ish and just keep cutting out the other BS to his game then he's a rotation level 2 guard. He can finish on the break or drive off of a close out here and there then its great. He's really cut a lot of bad stuff as of right now. That jumper has a lot of weird stuff to it and has a lot going on. I won't likely ever be a believer in him as a knockdown shooter unless he cleans that stuff up.

I'm not a big believer in some huge upside there... but the encouraging sign is that he seems to be playing the right way and then there is the breakfast club stuff... where he helped organize the new guys plus JB for extra workouts. I love that kinda effort... even if it is a little cheesy it shows a care factor. So overall I'm encouraged with him but I was a huge skeptic. So many times when guys play like he does in NO its because of a flawed mental approach that likely won't improve.
