Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

Locke talked about not tearing it down and just retooling around Don today. I am still not a fan of that, but if we did... we'd need something more stable at center. I think we could get Theis from Indiana with just expiring contracts.... so NAW and someone else. I think that might be an interesting fit with Vando as a 4. Just spitballing a duct tape solution here should we say "eff you Knicks we are still going to compete".

Starters:
Don
Mike/Bev
Bogie
Vando
Theis

Bench:
JC
Beasley
Mike/Bev
Kessler/Doke
Fontechio

I mean its not horrible.

I just don't buy the idea of re-tooling around Donovan at all. If the Knicks don't meet Ainge's asking price, he may keep him into the season, but I don't think there will be any re-tooling to try and actually be competitive. I think they will still want to lose as many games as possible and then look to trade him at the deadline in February. I think Locke's just talking out of his *** again.

"Not horrible" is horrible though. Definition of NBA purgatory, aka fan hell. No fun or future in picking #13th - #18th every season.
Yeah I would prefer we don't do that. I think it would be one year in purgatory while we waited for a prime return on Donovan. You also lose the ability to trade Bev, Bogey for something good as their deals would expire. But if we wanted to start the season that way and there weren't great offers on Bev/Bogey or our other vets... and if the Knicks or other teams were still digging in their heels then it might be a duct tape solution without a lot of costs attached to it.

IDK... if the return isn't there for Donovan or for the vets that is when it gets interesting. Wouldn't take a whole lot (a guy like Theis) before it looks like an actual team. Preserve the other assets for a while... schedule is pretty rough so I think first half of the year they still wouldn't be above .500 like 30 games into the season and maybe the Knicks up the offer or a team like NOP comes out of the woodwork with an offer (like if CJ got hurt and they still want to win this season).

The NY coming to Utah so early in the season is going to be awkward one way or another... the AS game will be awkward. I can see Danny saying "ehhhh the **** these teams are offering ain't good enough... lets put a team together for a year and see what happens on draft night".

I still think the Knicks come with something better that gets the deal done. Right now I imagine that Brock guy is driving the negotiations... when Leon gets more involved they may start pushing the offer up.

Yes it is. That is a 35 win team.

35 plus or minus 5 games... I agree. Just saying its not horrible like we project to be 20-25 wins. Probably a 9/10 seed.

Still way too small in the back court. That will be our bane until we get rid of Conley and get someone to replace him that is taller than my mom.

We ain’t a contender though… simply saying it’s still like a .500 team. We have a lot of parts and if we got a couple others to tie the roster together it’s a real team. It’s only a team for a year but just saying…. We could be better than the Onocks next year if we wanted to… and that would be hilarious to me.

I’m still firmly team tank.

So am I. I am just afraid we are going to mistakenly put an ok team on the court that nets us picks in the 13-18 range. Worst case scenario. If we are retooling around Mitchell they need to take it seriously and get better pieces. I mean we got rid of an all-world talent, so what we get back better at least add up to all-world talents, or it was all for naught.

I dont want to retool around Donny either but Locke is simply framing the implications of what more and more folks are saying. Most likely the narrative the Jazz want out there.

I'm going to dance in glee in the event another team sends us a sweeter deal for DM than New Dork is offering.

**** the Knicks.

And if we don't receive a solid trade offer I'm fine with us keeping DM this season. Let other trades happen so a team can accumulate what's needed to trade for DM.

Honestly, I see the Jazz front office wanting to play the narrative that the Jazz are willing to retool around DM. That sends a message to the league to up your price.
