Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

I am not disagreeing with you but your comments cause me to question a few things. If they dont want a prolonged rebuild why did they trade Rudy instead of trading Donny for some assets that fill in some gaps? Rudy wanted to be here and still has plenty left in the tank. And if they dont want a prolonged rebuild why are they accumulating picks instead of getting young talent? I can easily see this ending up in an OKC scenario which for me makes no sense when you had two all stars who were still getting better.
The prevailing thought is that the Wolves offer was so good that the Jazz really had no choice but to take it. I think if the Jazz had gotten the same type of offer for Don right out of the box, we would be rebuilding around Rudy.

@Tony Jones

I agree with a lot of this. Why wouldn’t we be more interested in getting RJ if we weren’t doing a full rebuild? Herro is another piece I’d think would be more of a priority. I can see his value ranging wildly though.

Also as Fisher pointed out why aren’t they rounding out the roster… said he’s heard nothing about them trying to make upgrades around Donovan.

They may not want a long rebuild but I have a real hard time believing they rebuild around Donovan. Maybe they keep him but it’s a Plan B scenario and he’d still be very much on the block.

The Jazz traded Rudy because they got a generational return for him. Too good to pass up.

I do agree with this. Just think if the Jazz were truly genuine about retooling around Don there would be more noise about guys they were going after to fill out the roster. Daniel Theis was one guy I said they should pursue loudly as he is likely very gettable and worst case it sells your story a bit.

Maybe they haven’t gotten to the pivot moves yet though… for a number of reasons. Guess time will tell… thanks for coming by and chatting us up.

You also have to take into consideration that Rudy is not at an age where you do a rebuild around him. Don is younger, and wants out.

They are going to maximize the return that they get on both of them. Any other conclusion than that is just diarrhea of the mouth.

Lotta diarrhea being spewed in the five boroughs r/n.

Tony said they'd be comfortable for being bad one year.

One year tank and quick rebuild around Don. Use twolves futures to bring in star.

I think thats the current Jazz plan. Could change in the next year if Knicks meet the asking price

Don't really want Theis. Assuming a tank, I'd rather give the minutes to Kessler, and find out once and for all if Azubuike can play.

Like I still think the best case scenario for the Jazz is to keep Mitchell and still get Victor.

To me the Jazz could potentially nab a top tier UFA if they tell them they are about to trade for *insert top 30 type player*.

Okay… so the plan is stay bad enough with Don that you have a 14% shot at Wemby, sign a difference making UFA (market ain’t exactly loaded next year), and execute a trade for a star. Burn a year on Dons deal and hope this plan rekindles his desire to stay… or pray we win a title in the last two years of his deal before he walks.

I just don’t think that’s the plan. Cool if that’s your take but feel like maybe it’s just the Jazz want to create the illusion they will keep Don forever to make a deal more juicy.

The goal isn’t to get Theis but to make it seem like you are improving the team because you are keeping Donovan. Doke is t healthy yet… Kessler can still get minutes… if those guys are carrying your center minutes with Don and company you are a 30 win team.
