Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

listened to the Tony Jones interview. This really got me.

Tony Jones said picking Dok over Bane or McDaniels killed this 8 year era of jazz basketball. Said the scouting department were given an opportunity to state a case for McDaniels for 20 minutes and DL still picked Dok. This pisses me off. Tony then said it killed 8 years of quality gm’ing. How the **** do you not listen to your scouting department? What are you paying them for?? If DL drafts McDaniels or Bane then that just makes the acquisitions of Conley and Bogey that much better.
Plus follow that up with actually using the full MLE on a stretch big which we clearly needed rather than the stupid Favors deal. Imagine if we came out of that offseason with McDaniels or Bane and maybe Bobby Portis locked into a 3 or 4 year MLE type deal.

Are the Knicks supposed to be better in ‘24 than ‘23? And to restate/clarify, I’d just take the Dallas ‘23 pick.
The Dallas pick is top 10 protected... I think there is a real chance the Knicks miss the playoffs next year. I want the small percentage chance at a high pick or late lotto. They can keep the Dallas pick.

2029 is absolutely the line
Aight

-‘23 Dallas
-‘24/‘26/‘28 unprotected
-‘25/‘27/‘29/‘30 swaps
-add Grimes and/or some 2nds

Guess I’m trying to be realistic. I’m also putting a premium on getting this across the ****ing finish line and I think the top-end/premium potential is just as good if not maybe even better. I also really want an assurance of a ‘24 pick as it creates the possibility for getting a swap there too in a later trade with all of the vet spare parts we got now.

The game once you have a good quantity of assets is trying to increase the quality of them, in my mind.

You can’t trade the 2030 pick in any capacity.

That is only 4 total 1sts.

I would at minimum ask for the 23/25/27/29 Knicks 1sts the Dallas 2023 1st and the Milwaukee 2025 1st plus 26/28 pick swaps.

I don’t think the 2029 pick is really in play. Too much wonkiness that could scare either side from wanting to include it. Like I said in the other thread, I don’t think GM’s love the idea of super distant picks as much as fans do. With three additional picks in addition to their own and several young players the Knicks could trade, I think the deal gets done without it. 2029 is just too much of a wildcard given the situation.

It was included for Gobert though and there is no wonkiness from the receiving side (us). Why would we be scared from taking it?

Oh its in play... we got it from Minny... why not here.

If Ainge actually gets this deal done after what we got for Rudy, I think there will be a bit of a reset in the league... maybe not quite yet... but there is a reason teams stopped giving unprotected picks out and teams been throwing that **** out like candy.

It will stop happening sometime in the near future.
