Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

Knick fans think they have leverage and not give oBI, IQ, or grimes and only 2 pick and 3 protected. Need find other team. This is not acceptable.
Bring in Sac town. All those Miami rumors just won't get it done. Knicks clearly knew that Miami can't beat their offer. kangz is one of the few teams that can and they've been trying to win for years now.

Regardless our focus needs to be on getting the Knicks 23/25/27/29 1sts first and foremost. Even if they want to protect the 2029 1st top-5 like Minnesota.
This deal should absolutely start with the same things Minnesota gave up.

23/25/27 picks unprotected
29 pick top 5 protected
26 pick swap
Young players to develop - (Vanderbilt, Kessler & Bolmaro)
Favorable salary back - (Beasley & Beverley)

Bare minimum.

I think on top of that, the Jazz should expect at least one more pick - (23 Dallas Is my preference), and another pick swap (28) along with at least two of Toppin, Quickley and Grimes.

Edit - Oh, and I want them to throw in some 2nd round picks and the rights to Rokas Jokubaitis as well.

I can understand why the Knicks don't want to gut the team by getting DM. I can also see why the Jazz wants to get as much as possible for their developed star.

I see the players that are being discussed

Toppin - I think He should be in the trade
Barrett - I am OK if NY wants to keep him but they need to pony up picks
Quickley - It doesn't matter if he is in or out. 6-3 is a good size for a PG and they lack height in the backcourt.
Grimes - seems to be the linchpin in this trade. If it was me I would as for Grimes and fewer FRPs. Get 4 as long as min 3 are NYs
Reddish - I am a big fan and feel on a tanking team like the Jazz he can come into his own and be the 3 and D player he should be.
McBride - if quickley is not in the trade McBride should be and he would be a decent backup.

I think if we take Fournier's contract (needed for salaries) they take Rudy Gay's contract back. I think they will need him also on their roster. I also think you could flip Fournier to another team.

I make this deal happen as quickly as possible

Toppin, Grimes, Reddish, Fournier, McBride (3 NY picks and 1 of their other picks and 3 second rounders) for DM, Gay, and Azubuike

Use a pick to make the Collin Sexton S&T happen

Here is one I thought about Trade Bojan and Clarkson to Miami for Herro. I think that is a great trade for Miami and they keep the shooting with Bojan and the scoring with Clarkson.

Walker Kessler

Even I think that is WAY too much for DM.
I think you ask for the moon and then negotiate your way down from there.

Start by asking for 6 first round picks, 3 pick swaps, Obi, Barrett, Grimes and Quickley.

When the dust settles, they end up keeping Barrett and Quickley, but they give you 5 first round picks, two pick swaps, two second round picks, Toppin, Reddish, Grimes, and rights to Jokubaitis.

And they feel like they ended up winning the trade because they kept 2/4 players you initially asked for and they get their star player who WANTS to be there.

I agree with your point but there is a risk of asking for too much and completely turning off people you are negotiating against.

Isn't it protected 5-30? I thought NYK only gets it if it's top 4? Maybe I got that wrong... but still, it's a MKE pick... it's another trash pick.
It is top 4 protected for the Pelicans. Also it is a 2025 pick so it has a decent chance to be a solid pick. Giannis will still be in his prime but maintaining a high level core around him by that season could be difficult. They are asset poor and Middleton and Jrue may not even be on the team by that season.

That's a **** offer. The 4 other picks are all heavily protected and the MKE pick has a chance of about 1% maybe less to convert. So it's 5 picks and 3 of them are trash picks.
Those picks are protected in a way that works well for us. That Dallas pick likely conveys next year and I think it probably is in the 14-20 range in what should be a really deep draft. The pistons pick probably conveys in 25 which is good because you don't want too many picks too soon. There is a chance the 25 draft could be the double draft if the nba finally eliminates the college rule. It seems like 24 or 25 is likely when it happens. There is a chance we could be sitting on 5 or 6 1sts in that draft which would be crazy. The ideal situation to package picks and move up in a really deep draft.

I just hope that Ainge’s compass is pointed towards having the top possible selection from the Knicks every year. If that means that the Jazz get as few as two unprotected picks then I might be cool with that, but in every other year I want the swaps and compensation elsewise. I want 7 years of the best pick the Knicks have as a starting point.

I would use this 6 picks rhetoric to negotiate “down” to four unprotected and three swaps + Toppin, Quickley, and whatever matching salary of theirs. I honestly think that is more than fair for both sides even if I want more. But I would not take a “cent” less than owning the top-end of the Knicks’ draft for seven years. Not a crumb less.

23/25/27/29 pick swaps 24/26/28 unprotected 1sts plus 3 of the other 1sts they have would be cool too.

Same concept except we get 1 less unprotected 1st from them but adding 1/2 pick swaps we control all 7 possible years. Put it that we can swap Minnesota’s 1st with theirs next year if we want to.
