Jazz discussing #3 for #6, #18

Couldn't the Jazz draft Kanter first and then see what position Washington is in to draft Knight and trade from there? That way we at least get Kanter or Knight and the #18 pick.

This.

But I still am not crazy about the trade and getting Knight. Though if we got Biyombo at 12, it would make up for it.

KOC and the Millers have made their fair share of bone-headed moves over the past few years, but this is not one they will make. We will not be trading down and we will not be drafting Knight (with the #3). We will be taking Kanter. If Jimmer's there at 12 we will take him too, unless somebody projected much higher slips.

If this trade goes down it will be as bad as the time KOC traded Brewer and Maynor for nothing.

the Brewer trade brought back the draft pick that was flipped into the Jefferson deal. KOC drafted Maynor (who is totally overrated around here) with a low pick and then used him to solve the problem of the Harpring contract. That problem had to be solved one way or another, and potentially at the expense of a better player.

but yeah, keep thinking they were traded for "nothing".

This is absolutely right, I'm amazed that this message board wants 3 mediocre players instead of 1 elite player.

The difference is that the Blazers knew with 100% certainty that they were giving up Deron/Paul. In this situation, drafting Knight is still a very real possibility if we trade down. It's bad strategy to take a guy at 3 who almost certainly would not go 4. If this were the 23rd pick, then yeah, who cares about trading down a few spots for maximum gain, but this is the 3rd pick. We need to milk it for all its worth.

You have to believe that the Raptors will take Knight at 5 if he is there and they keep their pick. JMO.

I'd be for the Jazz doing this if they draft whoever the Wiz want (and pretty much only if that's Kanter) and the Wiz are in a position to draft Knight. At the very worst if Knight gets picked ahead the Jazz have Kanter anyway. I'd hate to see them do this beforehand.

I really want to take Kanter at #3 because I think he could be semi-special/unique. I'm afraid we'll take Knight. But Kicky's brought us this far and I am placing my trust in him. Kanter it will be.

#6 - Bismack Biyombo(if ppl think this is a reach - recently i've heard him mentioned to go to Toronto as high as #5, but most realistic would be Detroit at #8)
#12 - Marshon Brooks(best SG in the draft? i think so)
#18 - Kenneth Faried( a millsap clone, he'd definitely be the best value this late)

Agreed. Kanter OR D2will might be special, I dont see that out of Knight at all. PLUS, our biggest need isnt a PG, IMO. It is an actual SG, which we havent had since that one guy. There arent any sure fire 2's in this draft, so you go BPA at 3. Deal from there if needed, but DONT waste #3 on Knight, when you can get him later.

Still a very real possibility is a far cry from sure thing. Unless jazz know 100% certainty the guy they want is still there, then it's a bad move. You don't know that, I don't know that, maybe Jazz brass know that, but there seems to be a whole lot of uncertainty at this point.

As a side note I'm souring on Knight and easing myself on the Kanter bandwagon.

I'd like that draft but one thing I noticed. The Jazz usually take guys who work out for them
2010- Hayward,Evans
2009- Suton. Maynor had a workout but canceled cause of injury. Jazz did meet with him the day before the draft and saw him workout in GS
2008- Kosta was supposed to go in lottery so didn't work out
2007- Worked out Almond

Jazz are really the only team that would select Knight at 3.

There hasn't even been a rumor of a team wanting to trade up to get him.

But past 5 hes gone. After two everyone is drafting on need. Every teams big board has different bpa as well. Cavs would take knight 4 if they did not take irving 1. Perplexing that taking knight 3 is so hard to understand. I think there are alot of broken hearts on this board as the draft creeps closer as i think it is evident Kanter will not be a jazzman.
